14 Prison officers taken to hospital after violence at young offender institute – Sky News, Sky.com

Around 45 prison officers have been taken to hospital after violence broke out at a young offender institute.

The disturbance happened on Friday lunchtime at Feltham Young Offender Institute in west London.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice says there were no serious injuries and the incident was under control “within 25 minutes “.

It is not clear how many people were involved.

The prison holds children aged between 19 and 19 who have been convicted or are on remand.

In October, inspectors found the safety of the prison had dropped to an “appalling” level over the first half of the year.

According to the inspectors’ report, there was a 90% rise in violent incidents over Six months, while cases of self-harm had tripled.

The report also found the number of assaults against prison staff had increased by (************************%.
