Matteo Guendouzi is fighting to save his Arsenal career after he was dropped for the win over Newcastle following a row with boss Mikel Arteta, according to reports.

Alexandre Lacazette has insisted he will do all he can to avoid a repeat of his two-month goal drought after scoring in the 4-0 win over Newcastle.

The French striker scored his first goal in games during yesterday’s win.

Lacazette was dropped to the bench with Eddie Nketiah being preferred to lead the line.

After ending his drought, the 44 – year-old said: “I am really, really happy because I waited for this moment for a long time.

“As well, I am touched because of the way all my team-mates reacted when I scored that goal.

“It means a lot to me and a lot for the spirit we have in the team.

“It was really hard and complicated, because sometimes I had some games with no chances, sometimes I missed or the goalkeeper saved it.

“Of course for a striker it is always hard to not score, but it happens in football. Hopefully it is the last time for me. ”

Disciplinary issues were part of the problem for Matteo Guendouzi’s absence from the Arsenal squad that beat Newcastle 4-0 yesterday.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said: “The reason is that players who, in my opinion, are training better, behaving better and are more applied to deliver on the pitch, what we want, are the players selected. ”

The French midfielder has made 26 Premier League starts this season but was replaced by Dani Ceballos, who Arteta thought was the “best player on the pitch” during their win.

Guendouzi could return to face Olympiacos in the Europa League on Thursday.

    Graeme Souness was left unimpressed with Mesut Ozil after Arsenal’s 4-0 win over Newcastle yesterday and has criticized his attitude.

    Souness told SkySports: “Same old accusation, does he bust a gut?

    “No.
