So where does this leave Jorge Masvidal?

3 Potential Next Fights for Jorge Masvidal

Masvidal’s UFC 244 victory cemented his status as one of the most dangerous fighters in the UFC welterweight division, where he’s (ranked third) behind Colby Covington an d Tyron Woodley.

In July, he became the first person in the UFC to hand Ben Askren a loss with a brutal flying knee. The fight was over in a record five seconds.

Everyone wants to see a rematch of the Diaz-Masvidal BMF fight, which brought together two fascinating fighters with a bit of street-cred.

But if Diazdoesretire, it seems Masvidal could struggle to find a compelling opponent with a significant draw and fanbase. Here are three epic options for his next fight.

1. Conor McGregor

Conor McGregor is the most obvious choice for MMA fans, but UFC President Dana White has shot down this exciting possibility.

Masvidalclaims there’s a reason why the UFC won’t let him fight McGregor:

The president (Dana White) said we can’t compete because I’m too much man. He’s not going to allow that to happen.

2). Colby Covington

With the Irishman out of the picture, Colby Covington is next in consideration. But Gamebred is not too keen on handing his nemesis a UFC fight since that would be giving him unnecessary shine.

According to a recent revelation, he’s been looking to settle their feud away from the octagon, saying,

I go where he (Colby Covington) eats and wait for him. He doesn’t eat at these places no more.

He has, however, expressed interest in stepping in for Covington or Kamaru Usmanif either of them misses the UFC 245 bout for unforeseen reasons. As long as the paycheck’s large enough, anyway.

3. Canelo Alvarez

One competitor who Masvidal does want to challenge is Canelo Alvarez. Alvarez silenced critics last Saturdayafter violently knocking out Sergey Kovalevto capture the WBO title. He is a top pound-for-pound boxer and boasts belts in four fight-divisions.

According to Jorge’s trainer,

Canelo is the guy who interests him (Masvidal) the most, he’s the biggest star but also boxing was Jorge’s first love.

In his post-fight press conference, Masvidal said that he was open to fighting Canelo:

If Canelo wants to get his a ** kicked, that’s a fight I’ll take .

(But judging by) ************************************ (Nate Diaz’s latest posts on social media) , UFC fans might get that tantalizing rematch after all.
