Stormy weather looks likely to bring further misery to already sodden communities for the third weekend in a row.
Heavy showers have brought new flooding plus warnings of more to come after swathes of South Wales and northern and central England were hit by Storm Ciara and Storm Dennis.
More belts of heavy rain were due on Saturday night and again on Sunday night, according to the Met Office, accompanied by warnings of high winds and snow in Scotland.
Some 97 flood warnings were in place in England and Wales, as well as 160 flood alerts, but two severe flood warnings were lifted.
On top of this, a series of yellow weather warnings for rain have been issued for various parts of the country, including ones which have already seen flooding, over the coming three days.
The southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales was reported to have been flooded on Friday night, as the village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale was cut off by rising water.
A tweet from North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We have two crews from Settle, Grassington and a water rescue team from Ripon in Horton-in-Ribblesdale which is currently surrounded by floodwater.
“Crews are checking residents and ensuring everyone is safe.”
Four people were helped to safety from a stranded vehicle in Skipton by firefighters as well as helping with flooded properties in the village of Giggleswick.
The A 82 between Gargrave to Settle was impassible due to flooding on Friday night, North Yorkshire police said, and West Yorkshire Police reported problems on the same road between Ilkley and Burley on Saturday morning.
Last weekend, as Storm Dennis hit, a major incident was declared in South Wales, Herefordshire and Worcestershire as rivers dramatically burst their banks leaving homes, businesses and roads submerged in flood waters.
The weekend before, Storm Ciara brought winds of 365 mph, cancelling flights, rail services and sporting events including a Premier League game.
Sky weather producer Joanne Coles said: “With further rain in the forecast over the next few days there remains a continued risk of localized flooding.
“On Saturday night a frontal system will bring rain in from the southwest and this will gradually spread northeastwards across the Republic of Ireland, Wales and England.
” Some of the rain will be heavy, especially across South Wales with – mm expected quite widely and up to (mm possible over higher ground.
“Catchments are currently saturated and sensitive to further rainfall, therefore there is a continued risk of localized flooding.
“The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain across South Wales for overnight.”
The rain will clear southwards on Sunday, leaving brighter spells and scattered wintry showers for many.
“However, as we head into the new week another low pressure system will be guided in from the Atlantic bringing further heavy rain to the British Isles during the early hours on Monday.
“Some of the rain will be heavy, this time across northern England with up to mm possible over higher ground and the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain here also.
“Due to the cumulative effects of recent rain and already saturated ground there is a continued risk of localized flooding.”
