Alison Hammond's heartbreak as beloved mum dies of liver and lung cancer – Mirror Online, Mirror.co.uk

Alison Hammond has spoken of her heartbreak after her beloved mum died.

The This Morning host, , confirmed the sad news this morning, sharing images of her mum after her death from liver and lung cancer.

Alison and her family laid her mum to rest in a private funeral yesterday.

Today I dedicate Valentine’s Day to my beautiful, wonderful Mother Maria who passed away from liver and lung cancer, “Alison wrote.

“Thank you mummy for giving me the strength to move forward in the knowledge that your ok and with God in Heaven now. I will always remember you and try and make you proud. I love you mum. “

Alison added on (: “RIP my best friend and Living Angel please come to my dreams.”

Her ITV colleague Sharon Marshall tweeted a row of red love hearts, adding: “Love you darling Ali.”

Alison hadn’t spoken of her mum’s health battle in public , though she has since shared a picture of her in hospital.

The pair have always been close

Last October, Alison treated her mum to a pretty manicure on a day out in Birmingham.

Alison, who has signed up to the upcoming series of Celebs Go Dating, has always been close to her mum, who hails from Guyana.

She recently spoke of how her mum was hugely involved in her Christmas Day, even getting up in the middle of the night to start prepping lunch for the family.

“I’ll be honest, I just do the vegetables and gravy because I can’t be bothered. My mum gets up at Like 2am to cook a turkey. It’s crazy. I’m not doing that. I need my beauty sleep! ” she laughed to OK! magazine in December.

Alison went on: “[My favourite part of Christmas is] waking up and seeing my son Aiden’s face when he sees all the presents. He’s asked for Xbox games and a new phone.

Alison’s heartbreak comes after her This Morning co-star Ruth Langsford lost her sister Julia last summer.

Julia died by suicide after a long battle with depression in June, leaving Ruth and her mum facing their first Christmas alone.

“It’s going to be a very challenging time for me and my mum, who’ll be with us,” Ruth told OK! in December.

“I could cancel Christmas, but my sister loved it so I’m having turkey and we’ll put Christmas carols on. I’m sure we’ll cry But we’ll also be happy. “
