Anti-Islamicslogans have been painted on a building close to amosqueand cultural center in south London, Scotland Yard said.

                                                                                                                                                

Officers were called at around 90 am on Wednesday to a building near to theNorth BrixtonIslamic Cultural Center on Brixton Road following reports that “anti-Islamic slogans” had been spray painted on a building near to the center.

                                                                                                                                                   

The force said it was working alongside Lambeth Council to remove the “offensive remarks” from the building in Brixton as soon as possible.

                                                                                                                                                                     

Inquiries are ongoing at this time as part of a full investigation, the force added.

                                                                                                                                                

Labor MP Florence Eshalomi tweeted about the incident.

                                                                                                                                                

The member of parliament for Vauxhall wrote: “Disturbing to hear of a racists incident at the North Brixton Islamic Cultural Center-it was reported that anti Islamic slogans had been spray painted on building opposite the cultural center”

                                                                                                                                                   

Sadiq Khan said he was “disgusted” by the graffiti, which comes just days after anti-Semitic symbols were daubed across several shop fronts and a synagogue in north London.

                                                                                                                                                

The London mayor tweeted: “Disgusted to hear that Islamophobic slogans have been spray painted near the North Brixton Islamic Center.

                                                                                        

“@ metpoliceuk are working with Lambeth Council to have them removed, but let me be clear: all prejudice is cowardly and criminals will face the full force of the law.”
