                 2019 – 10 – (T) : 32: 20. (Z)

We are around half an hour away from kick-off, and there’s still no word on why Mesut Ozil misses out.

Given Unai Emery is not exactly best pleased whenever he’s asked about his decisions regarding Ozil, it’s probably wise to expect a cryptic response about his job being to pick the team.

Still, it doesn’t bode well for Ozil that he can’t even make the bench in a game you’d expect him to start and captain the club in …

So, Mesut Ozil misses out completely tonight.

Unless he’s got an injury problem we haven’t heard about yet, that’s another big statement from Unai Emery – but we will check in and see what is going on …

Injury news and predicted XI

Arsenal head coach Unai Emery is almost certain to once again rotate his squad as the Gunners welcome Standard Liege in the Europa League tonight.

Alexandre Lacazette (ankle) and Emile Smith Rowe (concussion) are the only absentees for this Europa League Group F clash.

Mesut Ozil is also expected to be recalled along with Kieran Tierney, while Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding could feature as they continue their comebacks from injury.

Emery has asked Tierney not to link up with the Scotland squad next week to benefit his rehabilitation.

The likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Reiss Nelson will be pushing for a rare start. Emiliano Martinez will start in goal, the 27 – year-old having been called into the Argentina squad for the first time in over eight years.

Predicted Arsenal XI:Martinez; Bellerin, Mustafi, Holding, Tierney; Torreira, Ceballos; Willock, Ozil, Nelson; Martinelli

Martinelli set for another chance to shine

When he signed in the summer, the prospect of Gabriel Martinelli leading the line for Arsenal in Europe this season seemed unlikely.

Ahead of the 18 – year-old in the pecking order was Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as well as England Under – 21 international Eddie Nketiah.

However, circumstances have swiftly changed and it is why Martinelli finds himself in line to feature for Arsenal tonight, when they host Standard Liege in the Europa League.

Aubameyang is due a well -earned rest after playing 720 minutes of football this season, while Lacazette is out with an ankle injury and Nketiah is on loan at Leeds United.

With Arsenal Under – 23 strikers Folarin Balogun and Tyreece John-Jules both injured, too, one can see how Martinelli’s chance to shine has come about so fast.

Gunners head coach Unai Emery said: “He is with us because he deserves to be with us. Pre-season was his chance to show and to work with us and we are very, very happy with him. He is a very fast player and that is a quality that is very important.

“He gives us good pressing without the ball, good pace in the final third, chances to score and he’s getting better. He is young but if his performances are getting better every day, it is good for him to carry on being with us. ”

Tonight marks another opportunity for the highly-rated Brazilian to make his mark in north London.

                 2019 – 10 – (T) : 51: 58. (Z)

The Gunners come into this match having won both of their previous meeting with the Belgian side.

However, those meetings came over 10 years ago in the Champions League group stage – and it’s fair to say a lot has changed in north London since then.

Indeed, Standard are second in the Jupiler Pro League having won six of their nine league games this season and could provide for a tough test for Unai Emery’s side.
