Since Villanelle pulled that trigger on her nemesis-turned-lover and left her bleeding on the ground amidst Roman ruins, fans have been desperate to find out if Eve Polastri survived the gunshot.
And the wait is nearly over, with the first episode of the third series of the acclaimed spy thriller landing on BBC iPlayer on Easter Monday, after airing in the US on BBC America and AMC the day before.
Given Eve, played by Sandra Oh, appears in the trailer, it seems fair to say that psychotic assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) did not dispatch the MI6 officer.
Many fans have observed how such an outcome mirrors the equally shocking end of season one, when Eve thought she’d killed Villanelle after stabbing her in the stomach.
Either way, theories about how the next installment of the drama will play out are abound on social media. Here FEMAIL brings you some of the potential plot lines that avid watchers of the show are predicting for series three.
Eve and Villanelle are reunited in episode four
Assuming Eve survives – and it’s a pretty safe bet she does, given her name makes up half the title of the show – at some point the two women are going to come face-to-face once more.
One fan who has read between the lines of several critics’ reviews has deduced that a dramatic reunion will take place at the end of episode four – prior to a standalone episode dedicated to Villanelle.
Twitter user @ killingkyra shared a thread quoting a review by Paste Magazine which states that writer Suzanne Heathcote has made a decision to keep Eve and Villanelle separated ‘minus one brief and surprising scene’ for at least the first five episodes.
She Then cites another reviewer who claims the duo’s reunion ‘comes when you least expect it: with a violent and electrifying encounter ‘.

The fan then shares another critic’s comment that episode five ‘kills the series momentum’ after ‘the events at the end of four’.
She concludes: ‘Eve and Villanelle will have one (violent and electrifying) scene together within the first five episodes , and that it will most likely take place at the end of episode 4, just before Villanelle’s stand-alone episode. ‘
Just another four weeks to wait for that, then.
Eve is being trained up to become an assassin
In the final episode of series two, Eve became a killer herself – bludgeoning The ‘s Raymond (Adrian Scarborough) with an ax in a hot el hallway to stop him strangling Villanelle.
It was a scene that made even the most violent slasher movies look tame, with Eve delivering frenzied blow after blow, sending blood spattering over the walls – something Villanelle appeared to take great pleasure in, once she’d recovered from near asphyxiation.

Eve, on the other hand, was horrified by her violent onslaught – made worse when Villanelle let slip in the final scene that she could have defended herself as she was carrying a gun.
So, why didn’t she use it? Twitter user @ srev_8 reckons it was all a test to see if Eve had it in her to murder someone – and become a member of The 14.
He tweeted: ‘My #KillingEve theory is that they’re training Eve to be the next top assassin.
‘This has all been a set up of tests to make sure she will be the ultimate one who won’t get caught. And I think Bill is number 1 of the . Villanelle was just a pon. ‘
All very Hunger Games, no? For those who may have forgot, Bill was Head of Security Section at MI5 and a close companion of Eve’s in season one. Sadly he met a sticky end at the hands of Villanelle on a nightclub dance floor in Berlin.
Nico is framed for Gemma’s murder
At the end of the penultimate episode of season two, Eve’s long-suffering husband Nico fell prey to conniving Villanelle yet again.
Having been confronted by the assassin while he and Gemma – a fellow teacher with a major crush on him – moved his belongings into a storage locker, he woke up to find Gemma dead next to him, having been suffocated by a plastic bag tied around her head.

Theories abound on Reddit that Nico will be put in the frame for Gemma’s murder – which was all part of Villanelle’s master plan.
CommotioCerebri suggested Villanelle killed Gemma ‘to frame Niko for Gemma’s murder or to permanently scare him away’.
‘She can’t kill him, so this is how she can remove him from Eve’s life,’ they wrote.
TishLaDish 29 agreed, writing: ‘I would think either of your theories is viable. Maybe a combination of both? Frame him to keep him away from Eve? But oy, what if Eve wants to “rescue” him? ‘

Villanelle is Konstantin and Carolyn’s daughter
In a recent interview, Fiona Shaw – who plays Carolyn – let slip that her character has’ got more children than we know ‘.
‘ You never know who she was actually married to and who was the father of those children, whether it’s the same father, ‘she told Enterntainment Weekly .
In series three we meet Carolyn’s daughter Geraldine (played by Gemma Whelan) – but some fans suspect Villanelle could be the product of a Carolyn-Konstantin tryst, and thus Geraldine’s half-sister.

Earlier this year The Sun revealed Villanelle – who is living in Barcelona at the beginning of series three – gets married to a Spanish woman in the new series.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jodie Comer hinted That Villanelle does come face-to-face with someone who she thought was dead.
Naturally she could be talking about Eve, but there is the possibility she’s referring to someone else.
