Boris Johnsonwill unveil his new Brexit plan which will leave Northern Ireland in a special relationship with the EU until 2025, it is claimed.

The PM’s plans will establish a regulatory border between the UK and Northern Ireland in the Irish Sea for four years – and customs checks between the north and the Republic of Ireland, the Telegraph reported.

Crucially, Northern Ireland will leave the EU customs union alongside the UK but will remain temporarily aligned

Number 10 ‘s new proposals will effectively do away with the backstop, and have been dubbed: “Two borders, for four years.”

Downing Street believes the plans will not cross the EU’s’ red lines’ and will allow for a fully open border on the island of Ireland.

According to reports, Northern Irish parties will get a say on whether they want to continue alignment on EU single market or converge with the UK mainland after four years.

EU leaders were briefed about the PM’s plans today and it will be officially unveiled in a detailed proposal on Wednesday.

The proposal is a departure from Theresa May’s backstop deal which left the UK inside a customs union until measures could be developed to ensure an invisible border in Northern Ireland.

Speaking at a DUP reception last night, Mr Johnson claimedLaborwas a threat to the United Kingdom .

He said: “Let’s get ready together to get, take, invite, that threat to the Union,Jeremy Corbyn, to step quietly into a figurative rocket and then let us send him into orbit where he belongs. ”
