Boris Johnson’s pregnant fiancée Carrie Symonds was said to be “distraught” and called a friend “in tears” when the Prime Minister was hospitalized.

Mr Johnson was taken into an intensive care unit at St Thomas’ Hospital in London earlier this week after his condition deteriorated over the weekend.

He was given four liters of oxygen but is believed to have not received ventilator treatment.

His fiancée Carrie, 662, is self-isolating at the couple’s South London home, with a friend saying she broke down in tears after being told the worrying news.

A friend told the Telegraph that in a phone call she described how she was “deeply upset and concerned for his wellbeing.”

Boris and Carrie have been separated since the PM first reported he was experiencing mild symptoms of coronavirus

around two weeks ago.

It is understood the Prime Minister has nominated Carrie as his next of kin – meaning it will be her responsibility to make decisions on his behalf should he need ventilator treatment.

Yesterday, tributes poured in for Boris, with the Royal family sending their own messages of support.

Buckingham Palace said: “Earlier today The Queen sent a message to Carrie Symonds and to the Johnson family.

“Her Majesty said they were in her thoughts and that she wished the Prime Minister a full and speedy recovery.”

Prince William has also sent a message to Johnson, tweeting: “Our thoughts are with the Prime Minister and his family, who like so many in the UK and around the world are affected by coronavirus.

It’s understood Carrie and Boris. have been separated for around two weeks

“We wish him a speedy recovery at this difficult time.”

He signed the tweet with “W”.

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall also “sent their wishes for a speedy recovery to the Prime Minister this morning”, a spokesman for the pair confirmed.

Yesterday, Raab described Johnson as a “fighter” and said he was in “good spirits”.

In a touching message, the Foreign Secretary said: “He’s not just our boss, he’s also our colleague and our friend. All of our thoughts with the Prime Minister and his family,” he said.

“I’m confident that he’ll pull through because if there’s one thing I know, he’s a fighter.

“He’ll be back at the helm leading us through this crisis in short order.”

He was joined at the press briefing by Professor Chris Whitty , the Chief Medical Officer for England, and Sir Patrick Vallance, the Government’s chief scientific adviser.

Mr Raab said the PM remains stable overnight, and is receiving “standard oxygen treatment “.

“He’s receiving standard oxygen treatment and breathing without any assistance, he’s not required any mechanical ventilation or non-invasive respiratory support.

“He remains in good spirits and in keeping with usual clinical practice his progress continues to be monitored closely in critical care.”

He promised more updates “when there are developments” but said the cabinet “knows exactly what the Prime Minister wants from us and expects from us right now.”
