Boris wins major vote in Commons as MPs pass Queen's Speech – PM saved from humiliation – Express, Express.co.uk

ThePrime Ministerwon 310 to 294, a majority of 16 as MPs approved the Government’s agenda. Winning the vote is a huge result for Mr Johnson after a series of losses in the Commons since he has taken office.

Both Labor and the SNP had put forward amendments criticizing the speech , although those were rejected.

However, despite those amendments, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid, announced that the Queen’s Speech delivered on the priority of the people.

Within the speech, there are 26 bills which are set out, including legislation on Brexit and the NHS.

Despite that, the Labor Party concluded that the speech itself did not address issues such as rebuilding the economy or the housing crisis in the UK.

Mr Johnson’s victory comes as he also announced that he would table a motion to call a general election in December.

The Prime Minister will attempt to trigger an election on December 12 as he urged Jeremy Corbyn to back the motion.

Although he insisted that he did not want an extension to Brexit, he urged MPs to back his motion.

Mr Johnson also revealed that he expected the EU to soon grant an extension to Brexit, therefore clearing the way for a possible election in December.

Speaking to the BBC’s Laura Kuenssberg: “I’m afraid it looks as though our EU friends are going to respond to Parliament’s request by having an extension, which I really don’t want at all.

“So, the way to get this done, the way to get Brexit done, is, I think, to be reasonable with Parliament and say if they genuinely want more time to study this excellent deal, they can have it but they have to agree to a general election on 12 December. “

Mr Johnson also called on the leader of the Opposition to put an end “to this nightmare” and try to get Brexit done.

Despite Mr Johnson’s desire to call an early election, Shadow Leader of the House, Valerie Vaz, said that Labor would only back an election “once no deal is ruled out and if the extension allows”.

Under the Fixed Term Parliament Act, Mr Johnson requires a two-thirds majority to call an election.

Commenting on what he would do if Labor refused a vote for an election, Mr Johnson insisted that he “would campaign for the people” to try and progress matters.

He said: “We would campaign day after day for the people of this country to be released from subjection to a Parliament that has outlived its usefulness. “

In support of the Prime Minister, Justice Secretary, Robert Buckland insisted that an election was the only option left.

Despite Mr johnson’s victory today, there is a major split within the Tory party over whether to press ahead with an election in December.

According to Sky News, there are “serious divisions” within Mr Johnson’s party.

Moreover, one unnamed Conservative told The Guardian: “There’s a big, big fight going on, basically. The parliamentary party is split 50 / 50.

“Personally, I don’t think an election is a very good idea.”

“It would be better to go to voters having finished the job. I feel that’s what most colleagues want. ”
