Capcom is Baiting Gamers With False Hope for a Deep Down Release, Crypto Coins News

  • Capcom still has a trademark for Deep Down.
  • Yoshinori Ono says that the game isn’t quite dead.
  • Gamers who are holding out hope need to give up.

Arecent interview with Capcom’s Yoshinori Onohas him breathing deceptive life back into Deep Down. This is a game originally announced by the company back in 2013, but it never actually came out.

Eurogamer asks Ono about the game in the interview. The following is his response:

“The original team is clearly no longer together at this point, but people might have noticed that we’ve kept the trademark registered, and it’s not been completely given up on.”

That seems to suggest that Deep Down is still on Capcom’s radar, but that’s just stringing along anyone hoping for the game to come out. The last mention of it prior to this interview was in 2015. Also, there’s another series from Capcom that may be too similar to Deep Down to warrant the new IP.

Don’t Hold Out Hope That Deep Down Will Ever Come Out

Dragon’s Dogma and Deep Down share many core elements. They are both action RPGs taking place in fantasy medieval settings that task players with fighting monsters. The main difference is that Deep Down was going to be a multiplayer free-to-play online game, while Dragon’s Dogma is a one-time purchase.

Dragon’s Dogma also got a sequel in 2015 that only came out in Japan . That game was Dragon’s Dogma Online. It plays like Dragon’s Dogma but is free-to-play and lets players meet up online for adventures. Sounds a little too similar to Deep Down, doesn’t it?

A Dragon’s Dogma Sequel Is Much More Likely

To take this one step further, there’s no recent news of Capcom staff showing interest in getting Deep Down out to gamers. Instead, we have Hideaki Itsuno, the director of Dragon’s Dogma and Devil May Cry 5,saying he wants to make a Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Itsuno even goes so far as to say a Dragon’s Dogma sequel was being considered before Devil May Cry 5 That has led to speculation that a Dragon’s Dogma sequel may be in the works following thesuccessful release of Devil May Cry 5.

At the end of the day, Deep Down doesn’t stand a chance of coming out. Everything it was going to be has already been done by Dragon’s Dogma. Also, Capcom is more likely to stick with new games for an existing IP over reviving a largely forgotten game.

At this point, anyone still waiting for Deep Down will likely be waiting forever.
