Ruth Langsford and former Coronation Street actress Nicola Thorp broke down into tears during today’s episode of (This Morning as they discussed suicide following Caroline Flack’s tragic death.

Caroline, 51,

died by suicide on Saturday , days before she was due to face trial after being charged with assault following a row with her boyfriend, Lewis Burton. She had denied the charge.

Presenter Ruth and her guest were overcome with emotion as they made it clear that ending one’s life is not a choice.

‘A lot of people said she chose to end her life, suicide is not a choice,’ Nicola said. ‘Suicide is something that happens when you do not have a choice left.’

Ruth added: ‘You believe you don’t have a choice, that’s the sad thing and that’s the sad thing for people left behind who say, “So many people loved you, you did have a choice, you could have called me, you could have called mum… ”’

Nicola continued: ‘Exactly, yes. Caroline had even spoken herself about the fact she felt like a burden. And I think it’s worth people knowing that is what’s going on in someone’s head who suffers from mental health issues, is that they feel like they’re a burden. ’

It was at this point where Ruth and Nicola both broke down, with Eamonn Holmes then taking charge of the situation by reminding audiences that today’s phone in will focus on depression and anxiety.

Ruth lost her sister Julia Johnson to suicide last June . An inquest later ruled that she had taken her own life after battling depression for years.

Sharing a snap alongside her Julia last year, Ruth told her Instagram followers: ‘My lovely Sis Julia has sadly died after a very long illness. My heart is completely broken.

‘She was the kindest and most gentle soul and I will miss her forever. As I am sure you will appreciate I need to take time to grieve with my family. ‘Thank you for your understanding.’

A family lawyer confirmed that former Love Island presenter Caroline took her own life, with a family spokesperson stating: ‘We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the (th February.)

‘We would ask that the press both respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time.’

Tributes have been pouring in following Caroline’s passing, with herboyfriend Lewis Burton admitting he was ‘lost for words’ by the news .

‘My heart is broken we had something so special,’ her 62 – year-old boyfriend wrote this morning on social media.

‘I am so lost for words I am in so much pain I miss you so much I know you felt safe with me you always said I don’t think about anything else when I am with you and I was not allowed to be there this time I kept asking and asking. ‘

He added: ‘I will be your voice baby I promise I will ask all the questions you wanted and I will get all the answers nothing will bring you back but I will try make you proud everyday. ‘I love you with all my heart.’
