Marcus Rashford’s sensational free-kick ensured Manchester United edged into the Carabao Cup quarter-finals with a hard-fought 2-1 win at Chelsea.
Rashford put Manchester United in front with the first shot on target in the match at Stamford Bridge.
Daniel James was felled by Marcos Alonso inside the Chelsea penalty area in the 26 th minute, which gave the visitors a chance to break the deadlock.
Rashford, who missed a spot-kick at Norwich on Sunday, made no mistake with his effort as he found the bottom left *** to put Solskjaer’s side ahead.
Chelsea level just after the hour-mark when Michy Batshuayi held off four visiting defenders to drill into the bottom corner from 20 yards.
But Rashford doubled his and United’s tally with a stunning free-kick from 30 yards which found the top corner to put the Red Devils into a 2-1 lead and they ultimately held on despite the Blues’ spirited effort.
