Police are advising members of the public to stay away from the affected area.

Officers were called to the area in the early hours of Friday morning in response to reports a man was threatening to harm himself.

Sussex Police said in a statement: “The center of Chichester was closed off on Thursday evening (April as police dealt with a man who was threatening to harm himself.

“Officers were called to North Street at 9. am due to concern for the man who was in possession of a knife.
