A school-age child died from flu-related complications in Placer County, health officials said Tuesday.The child was healthy before contracting the flu and died at a hospital, the Placer County Public Health Department said. “The loss of a child to influenza is heartbreaking and we extend our deepest sympathy to the family, ”said Placer County Health Officer Dr. Aimee Sisson in a statement. “This is a tragic reminder of just how serious influenza can be. Across the state, there have been 64 flu-related deaths between Sept. 30 and Dec. 23, according to the California Department of Public Health. Two other children have died due to flu complications, including one in Sacramento County.
