MUMBAI: Leader of opposition Vijay Wadettiwar on Saturday said that since the people’s mandate was in favor of keeping the BJP out of power, it was for theShiv Senato take a lead in that direction.
“People’s mandate is against the BJP. As the Shiv Sena was the electoral partner of the BJP, it will have to take the lead in keeping the BJP out of power and in the formation of the government. As of now, we do not have any view on the role of the Shiv Sena, since there is no communication from it. The Shiv Sena will have to take a firm stand on whether to join hands with the BJP, ”Wadettiwar said.
Wadettiwar said both the Congress and NCP would sit in the opposition, but if the aim is to halt the BJP from coming to power, then all anti-BJP parties would have to come together.
“People ofMaharashtrawere keen to dislodge the BJP-led government, but the Congress failed to assess the situation . As a result, we missed the opportunity narrowly. From the outcome of the assembly election, it appears that farmers, workers and jobless youths were totally against the government. BJP nominees and most of the defectors were defeated by a huge margin. In fact, Fadnavis has lost the moral right to continue in office, ”Wadettiwar said.
He said that the entire opposition would work for a BJP-free state. “We will work out a comprehensive action plan in that direction,” he said.
Congress state unit presidentBalasaheb Thorat, who called on NCP president Sharad Pawar at his hometown Baramati inPune district, said at the moment there was no proposal before the Congress-NCP to join hands with the Shiv Sena for formation of the government.
NCP politician and RS memberPraful Patelmade it clear that the NCP would play the role of a strong opposition. “We don’t want to have any role in government-formation. BJP-Shiv Sena have got the mandate, so best wishes to them, ”he said.
