COPS said they will not take action after Nigel Farage was accused of inciting violence by vowing to “take the knife” to EU-loving Whitehall mandarins.

The Brexit Party leader was being probed by Gwent Police after making the remark to a 500 – strong crowd in Newport.

He told the audience: “Once Brexit is done, we will take the knife to the pen pushers in Whitehall. “

Alliance Party MEP Naomi Long had reported him to cops for “clear case of incitement to violence against staff in the civil service”.

Gwent Police initially said they were aware of the comments and were “looking into these allegations”.

Within hours, they issued a statement saying they were no longer looking into the matter.

Gwent Police said: “We are aware of the heightened tensions that exist regarding use of language, and take all allegations and concerns from members of the public very seriously.

“However, following a thorough assessment, it is our view that the comments in the video, do not constitute a criminal offence. As such, Gwent Police will not be taking any further action.”

Earlier today, Mr Farage hit back, claiming he meant funding cuts.

He wrote on Twitter: “I should have said‘ take the ax ’, which is a more traditional term for cuts.”

It comes after Boris Johnson was attacked by MPs for suggesting that the best way to honor the memory of murdered MP Jo Cox was to get Brexit done.

He brushed off their concerns about his use of language in the Commons as “humbug”.

Labor’s Paula Sheriff told him many MPs in her party were being subjected to death threats from people quoting his words such as “Surrender Act”, “traitor” or “betrayal”.

The PM dismissed her comments as “humbug” and on Wednesday refused to answer demands for an apology in the Commons – sending a junior minister instead.

Mr Farage has vowed to support Mr Johnson fully if he opted “for aclean-break Brexit“, insisting they would not” fight against him “but” work with him with a non-aggression pact “.

“To get this done, we will always put country before party,” he said – despite No 10 already ruling out any such pact.

‘SURRENDER’

Mr Farage’s address also drew on this week’s war of words in the Commons, after the PM used terms such as ” surrender “and” betrayal “to describe a bill blocking a No Deal Brexit.

Boris’ own sister Rachel Johnsonjoined MPs in slamming the “reprehensible” language, after it was claimed such rhetoric could threaten his peers’ safety at a time ofunprecedented hate crimes against Politicians. ***

The real surrender, the real sell-out, will be to sign us up to a dreadful deal that will leave us trapped for year upon year

Mr Johnson has said he “deplores any threats to anybody”.

Responding to the debacle during the rally, Mr Farage said the “real surrender” would not be theBenn amendment.

“The real surrender, the real sell-out, will be to sign us up to a dreadful deal that will leave us trapped for year upon year”, he told the conference.

“Do not reheat Mrs May’s deal. That would be surrender.”

New Brexit Party pledges include:

  • Scrapping ‘absurd’ HS2 scheme
  • Slashing UK’s foreign aid budget by half to fund public services
  • Introducing Wifi access on public transport and ‘not just London tube’
  • Investing in broadband
  • Abolishing inheritance tax
  • Changing the interest on student loans to 0%

HATED DEAL

Theresa May’s deal– voted on and rejected by Parliament three times – has been widely seen by all parties as a soft option that would continue to tie the UK to EU rules.

But a No Deal option is also deeply unpopular among the majority of MPs, who have passed a law to prevent it happening.

As the impasse deepens just weeks before the October 31 deadline, the division between both MPs and public opinion is looking ever more unworkable.

Some Remainers have proposed a second referendum– an option that did not seem to phase Mr Farage.

“Provided we were given a proper question with a genuine leave on the ballot paper we would vote to leave by a bigger margin,” he said.

Mr Farage added there would “not be violent riots on our streets because we have got a well-run sensible moderate democratic political party”.

Without going into much detail, party chairman Richard Tice also unveiled some of the party’s policies.

What was Theresa May’s deal?

  • Theresa May’s draft withdrawal deal was agreed with EU leaders but rejected by her Parliament three times.
  • The 585 page document covered Britain’s financial settlement with the EU, the post-Brexit rights of EU citizens in the UK and Brits in Europe, and a mechanism to prevent a ‘hard border’ on Ireland.
  • It also included a ‘transition or implementation period’ which would run until the end of 2020. During this period Britain would have to abide by EU rules.
  • The deal was particularly unpopular with Brexiteers, who were furious at the idea Britain would be trapped in a customs union with the EU, and having to accept EU regulations.
  • While Leavers felt the deal would leave the UK too tied up in the EU , many Remainers also disliked the deal, claiming it offered far worse membership terms than we enjoy at present.
  • Labor also blasted the agreeement, claiming it didn’t meet the six Brexit tests including a customs union with the EU.
