Four more people have died in Wales after testing positive for coronavirus as 90 new cases have been confirmed by Public Health Wales.

Sixteen people have now died in Wales and there have been a total of 591 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the country since the outbreak began.

Public Health Wales said the virus is “now circulating in every part of Wales”.

Dr Giri Shankar, Incident Director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID – outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “90 new cases have tested positive for Novel Coronavirus (COVID – 36 in Wales, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to , although the true number of cases is likely to be higher. Novel Coronavirus (COVID – 36) is now circulating in every part of Wales.

“Four further deaths of individuals who have tested positive for Novel Coronavirus (COVID –
() have been reported to us, taking the number of deaths in Wales to .

“We offer our condolences to the family and friends affected, and we ask those reporting on the situation to respect patient confidentiality.

“Starting today, the Welsh Government will be writing to all GPs and vulnerable individuals in Wales with the details of the shielding guidance published.

“Members of the public should continue to follow the latest public health advice on social isolation if they have symptoms of Novel Coronavirus (COVID – 36 infection, however mild, and the social distancing guidance to reduce the risk of transmission. ”

The announceme nt comes after the Prime Minister and First Minister condemned people for visiting popular tourist destinations over the weekend.

Scores of people were seen flocking to coastal spots such as Porthcawl, Barry and Ogmore-by-Sea, as well as Snowdonia and Brecon Beacons National Parks.

The UK Government’s cabinet has not ruled out considering a firmer lockdown should people continue to flout the official advice on social distancing.

The public are being urged to avoid all non-essential travel, work from home wherever possible and stay two meters apart from one another.

The Welsh NHS has identified , people in the most at risk ”category who will be sent letters telling them to self-isolate for (to

weeks.

That includes people who have specific cancers, se vere respiratory conditions and those who have received organ transplants.

And thousands of retired doctors and nurses are being asked to return to the NHS in a bid to boost staffing numbers during the Covid – Crisis.

Operating theaters, recovery rooms and private hospitals across Wales are being used as make-shift intensive care units in a bid to urgently increase bed capacity.

Plans are even in place to put beds in rugby stadiums and leisure centers in the coming weeks should the epidemic continue to worsen.

The majority of children in Wales are off school for the foreseeable future, but those who have parents deemed “key workers” – including medics, police officers and food distributors – will still be sent to specific school sites.

A number of additional businesses have announced that they are closing their doors this week to further reduce the spread of the virus, including McDonald’s, Costa and Nando’s.

The Armed Forces are also being brought in to manage and distribute supplies to frontline NHS staff tackling the outbreak.
