Captain Tom Moore’s charity single You’ll Never Walk Alone has gone to number one in the iTunes chart.
The track, which the – year-old fundraiser recorded with Michael Ball, has pushed Dame Vera Lynn and Katherine Jenkins’ duet of We’ll Meet Again to number two.
The (Rodgers and Hammerstein song will raise money for the NHS, alongside Captain Moore’s ongoing walking appeal.
The well-known Carousel number has become an anthem for medical staff during the coronavirus pandemic.
The new version features an introduction from Captain Moore, who said: “When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high and don’t be afraid of the dark.
“At the end of a storm there’s a golden sky and the sweet silver song of a lark.”
The single also features the NHS Voices for Care Choir.
