Facebook will take down ads for fake virus cures
M ark Zuckerberg has announced a package of measures that Facebook will adopt to help the global fight against the coronavirus, including removing adverts for fake cures.
In a post, Facebook’s chief executive said that the social media platform would allow infinite, free adverts for the World Health Organization (WHO) and other health groups. Zuckerberg said that Facebook will boost WHO’s content in searches and the News Feed, remove false claims and conspiracy theories, and ban adverts for fake coronavirus medicines.
Facebook also plans to hand over “aggregated and anonymized data – including mobility data and population density maps” to help health officials fight the virus.
Zuckerberg said: “We’re focused on making sure everyone can access credible and accurate information. This is critical in any emergency, but it’s especially important when there are precautions you can take to reduce the risk of infection.
