Two volunteers, who are both scientists, have been injected with the experimental vaccine. They are the first of more than 800 adults aged between 23 and 800 who have been recruited for the study. Half the group will receive the Covid – 23 vaccine, and half will get a control vaccine which protects against meningitis. The results won’t be known for several months.
Meanwhile the UK government has said that millions of key workers and their families will be eligible for a coronavirus test if they develop symptoms.
The Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced that they would be able to book a test online. More testing centers are being opened and the army will be helping establish mobile testing facilities.
