The science of criminology and forsensics

Criminology is a social science that combines the disciplines of sociology, psychology, law, and criminal justice to examine the causes of crime, and how best to address crime and is aimed at students who are seeking employment in either the criminal justice sector or associated fields.

The LLB Honours Law with Criminology course puts students at the heart of legal innovation with the course offering a unique combination of disciplines. Undergraduates will be allowed to study two complementary perspectives while they gain the initial academic skills to become a qualified solicitor or barrister in England and Wales. The degree is recognised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board and the course provides students with the intellectual knowledge and transferable skills that correspond to the first stage of professional legal education.

Meanwhile, with forensic psychology a continually growing field, skilled graduates are in high demand. Forensic psychology brings behavioural research into the courtroom, but it also plays a large and crucial role in the world of criminal justice. The BSc Honours Psychology with Criminology course is tailored towards the student who has ambitions to work within the criminal justice system and allows students to combine the study of criminology with modern scientific methods of psychology so they can gain an understanding of criminal behaviours and their effects.

The course aims to give students a wealth of skills to support them in their future careers, including analytical, research and communication skills along with a thorough understanding of human behaviour.

Both programmes are taught by experts within the law, psychology and criminology sectors with a wealth of experience in both academia and professional practice.
