Multiplayer is heading to Cyberpunk 2077. Earlier today, CD Projekt Red took to Twitter to announce that it is lining up a multiplayer mode for the upcoming dystopianfirst-person role-playing game.

The idea of ​​a multiplayer mode has been doing the rounds within the studio for some time, with CD Projekt Red previously confirming it was knee-deep in a research and development phase to determine the viability of such a mode. Now, it appears multiplayer is well and truly ” in the works ” as CD Projekt Red puts it.

Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, Single-Player Content Then Multiplayer

The multiplayer mode won’t, however, be available at launch on April 16, 2020, when the game releases. CD Projekt Red plans to release a slew of post-launch free DLC and single-player content then focus its efforts on multiplayer. If the Cyberpunk 2077 ‘s post- release single-player content mimics the quality of The Witcher 3 offering – arguably better than the base single-player campaign – then we are in for veritable treat.

CD Projekt Red Is Hiring

Multiplayer hasn’t been part and parcel of the developer’s previous games and is, in many respects, uncharted territory for the Polish studio behind the acclaimed The Witcher series.

With that in mind, CD Projekt Red has put out a call for people to join the Cyberpunk 2077 development team and lend a hand. Thecareers pageon the developer’s website now lists openings for network programmers alongside two-dozen other positions.

CD Projekt Red isn’t in the business of taping on slapdash modes just for the sake of populating a game with content. If we don our shiniest speculative bonnets, this must mean that the core multiplayer game play loop is sufficiently fleshed out that the studio feels comfortable sharing the news with the world. It isn’t in the business of perfunctory announcements – when it goes, it goes all in.

Based off of the excellent The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and high-hopes for Cyberpunk 2077 ‘s single-player campaign, it will be fascinating to see how CD Projekt Red tackles multiplayer.
