Delhi Violence Over CAA Protest LATEST Updates : ) CNN-News reported that the victims of the continuing violence in the National Capital said that the rioters aren’t locals.
Meanwhile, a delegation of civil rights activists, including All India Progressive Women’s Association secretary Kavita Krishnan, on Tuesday went to meet Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal at his residence to submit an appeal to protect the people in the city from communal violence .
Even as the Delhi Police undertook steps to quell the continuing violence in several areas of northeast Delhi on Tuesday, incidents of arson continued on Tuesday evening in the Chandbagh area of the National Capital, reports said.
Rioters set afire to shops and pelted stones in a fresh wave of violence even as the police used tear gas to disperse the crowds, PTI reported. Paramilitary forces have also been deployed to bring the situation under control.
Rioters also set a bakery and several fruits carts on fire.
A curfew has been imposed in the Maujpur, Jafrabad, Chandbagh, and Karawal Nagar areas of northeast Delhi, India Today reported as violence continued for the third consecutive day over Citizenship Amendment Act protests.
“Delhi Police’s Special CP Pravir Ranjan said that curfew has been imposed in violence-affected regions in northeast Delhi,” the report said.
Mobs have set fire to vehicles in the Jyoti Nagar area of northeast Delhi on Tuesday evening, reports said.
Meanwhile, reports also said that the Congress is likely to hold a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) over the violence that has gripped the National Capital for the third consecutive day on Tuesday. The meeting is scheduled for am on Wednesday.
The journalist of the JK 24 News channel who was shot at in the Maujpur area of northeast Delhi on Tuesday, Akash has sustained a bullet injury while Covering the continuing violence. He has been admitted to the GTB hospital where his condition is serious.
The Delhi Police told the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday that it did not have adequate forces to immediately control the violence that hit parts of Delhi claiming nine lives, including that of a policeman, PTI reported.
The non-availability of adequate forces was conveyed by Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik during his meeting with the top brass of the MHA.
The Delhi Police told the MHA that it did not have adequate forces to control the northeast Delhi violence immediately, which led to the situation getting aggravated.
The toll in the violence that erupted in northeast Delhi has risen to nine, officials of the GTB hospital were quoted as saying by PTI .
Shots were fired in the Kardampuri area of northeast Delhi. News reported that firing occured between two groups and three paramilitary buses were rushed to the spot.
There was no police presence in the Khazoori Khas area of northeast Delhi even as violence continued for the third consecutive day over CAA protests. “Houses are being burned to the ground” in the area, CNN-News 25 reported.
NDTV anchor and senior journalist Nidhi Razdan confirmed that two reporters of the TV channel were beaten up by pro-CAA protesters. They were only allowed to go after someone told the protesters they were Hindus and not Muslims.
A News TV anchor and journalist just reported that independent scribe and JNU alumni Arvind Gunasekaran and another NDTV reporter were beaten up by a mob that was setting a mosque on fire. The journalists were trying to film the act.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said the meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah was positive and all parties have stressed on restoring peace in the national capital. “Meeting with HM Amit Shah was positive and it was decided that all parties will take steps to restore peace,” he told reporters after the meeting.
“The police are doing their bit and HM has assured that whatever force is needed, will be provided,” Kejriwal said.
The Hauz Rani protestors called the police action on February disproportionate and unprovoked. They said that there was no provocation at any point of the rlly from the people to incite police action.

Talking after the conclusion of a meeting chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah, Lieutenant General Anil Baijal an Congress and BJP leaders, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that it was decided that parties will rise above politics to make efforts to bring back peace in Delhi. He added that Shah promised that as much police force required in Delhi will be deployed, after concerns were raised about the shortage of security personnel in violence-hit areas.

The Supreme Court has agreed to hear an application filed by former Chief information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah and others seeking lodging of FIRs with regard to the recent violence in Delhi over the amended citizenship law. DCP (North East) Ved Prakash Surya in an order has prohibited the carrying of weapons, sticks or any other incendiary material that can be used for violence, keep in view the clashes witnessed in Delhi since Sunday. The order, which will be applicable till March, also prohibits the assembly of four or more persons and any kind of demonstration without permission, apart from the distribution of communally sensitive material.
The death toll in the northeast Delhi violence climbed to seven, a senior police official told PTI on Tuesday. A Delhi Police head constable, Ratan Lal, was among the seven killed in the violence that erupted on Monday over the amended citizenship law. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday called a meeting to discuss the prevailing situation in the National Capital after violence in Northeast Delhi over the amended citizenship law. Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and representatives of different political parties were invited for the meeting.
Till Monday, authorities had said at least four people, including Lal, were killed in the violence. They said that the death toll has increased to seven on Tuesday.

A head constable was among four people killed and at least others, including several paramilitary and Delhi Police personnel, were injured as violence spiralled over the amended citizenship law in northeast Delhi, turning it into a battlefield on Monday with frenzied protesters torching houses, shops, vehicles and a petrol pump, and hurling stones.

Three other civilians succumbed to injuries in the clashes, a Delhi government official said, adding People with injuries had come to the hospital for treatment. At least 24 Police personnel, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Shahdara, Amit Sharma and ACP (Gokalpuri) Anuj Kumar were injured while trying to quell the protests. Two CRPF police personnel were also injured, sources said.
Government sources said the violence in the national capital appears to have been “orchestrated” by some for publicity as it comes at a time when Trump is visiting the country. They said Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik was stationed at the police control room and closely monitoring the situation. Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla told reporters the situation in the national capital was fully under control and sufficient forces were deployed on the ground. Officials said at least eight companies (728 Personnel each) of central armed police were present on the ground, besides the Delhi Police.
However, Delhi minister and Babarpur MLA Gopal Rai tweeted that rioting was continuing at night in his constituency. “There is an atmosphere of terror in Babarpur, rioters are roaming and setting fire but there is no police force. I am calling the police commissioner Amulya Patnaik but he is not receiving his call. I urge Delhi LG and Home Minister to immediately deploy police force, “Sisodia tweeted at around PM.
Delhi government ordered the closure of all private and government schools in Northeast Delhi district will remain closed on Tuesday in the wake of the violence. A protestor fired multiple rounds in the air as a policeman was seen trying to stop him. The man is yet to be identified.
In Maujpur, pro and anti-CAA protesters indulged in stone-pelting and at least three vehicles were torched. Even closed shops were vandalized. At least one house was set on fire and plumes of smoke bellowed from the balcony. Pro-CAA protestors were also seen gheraoing and assaulting a man at Maujpur. Blood was oozing from his head, while some of the attackers raised provocative slogans. A petrol pump and two school buses were torched at Bhajanpura-Yamuna Vihar border during the rampage by the protestors.
Police have imposed section of the CrPC, which prohibits assembly of four or more people, in areas affected by violence in northeast Delhi. Vehicular traffic remained restricted on road number , which leads to Bhajanpura on one side and Ghaziabad via Gokulpuri flyover on the other side, causing inconvenience to commuters and locals, including students. At Gokalpuri, protestors resorted to stone-pelting in which Head Constable Ratan Lal was killed. At Bhajanpura Chowk, a fire tender was damaged by the protesters after it responded to an emergency call in the area.
Violence had occurred on Sunday also over the amended citizenship law near Jaffrabad over blocking off the road by anti-CAA protesters, while similar sit-ins were launched in several other parts of the national capital including Hauz Rani. The situation had escalated after BJP leader Kapil Mishra called a gathering on Sunday. Mishra demanded that police remove the anti-CAA protestors within three days.
