Wastelanders Lands April 7

The long-awaited expansion will introduce NPCs to the verdant hills of West Virginia for the first time, finally addressing the biggest complaint leveled at the game. Wastelanders also features a new main quest, new creatures, gear, and weapons, and dialogue trees linked to a new reputation system.

Here’s the official scene-setting blurb from Bethesda;

In Fallout

: Wastelanders, people are now coming back to West Virginia. Two vying factions are struggling to gain the upper hand as the secrets of West Virginia are revealed. The Settlers have come to find a new home, and the Raiders have come to exploit them. Embark on a new quest for the Overseer, forge alliances with competing factions, and uncover the truth of what’s hidden in the mountains.

There’s also a brand new trailer for the occasion.

Continuing the tradition of Fallout 76 fleecing players out of their hard-earned cash for not much in return, Bethesda is also flogging two Settlers and Raiders-themed content bundles. These feature cosmetics and a bunch of CAMP items.

Bethesda also announced that Fallout 76 would be available on the Steam digital storefront when the expansion launches in April. The Steam listing will also allow players to buy a controversial Fallout 1st membership if they so desire.

Bethesda’s Last Chance

For many, the Wastelanders expansion constitutes Bethesda’s final chance to redress its much-maligned multiplayer survival title. The update was initially slated for release in late , but Bethesda delayed launch to Q1 . Veiled behind the fanfare of a new trailer and a firm release date is another delay, albeit a smaller one.

The successive delays do suggest the developer has taken the time to polish the update, which bodes well. But anyone who’s followed Fallout 76 ‘s procession of disappointments knows that we aren’t out of the woods quite yet. April 7 could yank Fallout 76 from the festering mire of mediocrity or sound the death knell.
