Days afterPrince Andrewgave a TV interview about his relationship with convicted pedophile Jeffery Epstein, people are still stunned by his answers and questioning his choice to speak out.
TheDuke of York’s BBC Newsnight interviewwas painful to watch and the fallout from the disastrous 50 minutes is continuing with some of his sponsors distancing themselves from him and others calling for him to retire from public duties. Now, fingers are being pointed at who advised the prince to do the interview in the first place and some are accusing hisex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, of being behind it.
The duchess talked Andrew into doing the interview?
There were many cringeworthy moments during the time Andrew spoke to journalist Emily Maitlis about his friendship with Epstein and the accusations that he had sexual relations with one of Epstein’s alleged victims when she was 17. The entire interview, which was conducted inside Buckingham Palace, is being called a “car crash” and Fergie is being blamed for it.
A royal insidertold the Daily Mailthat “Andrew has been relying on Sarah heavily. In fact, she’s been the prince’s biggest champion and he values her opinion and experience. When the possibility of this interview arose, Sarah felt that it could be the best way of clearing his name while presenting the public with a look at the real Andrew. ”
The source added, “[Fergie] backs him to the hilt; and while this is unusual for a prince to go on TV, she felt that these were exceptional times and unusual circumstances. ”
However, an advisor for theDuchess of Yorkinsisted that is not the case.
Fergie was shocked over the prince’s interview
Ferguson’s advisor, James Henderson, said that the Daily Mail’s report is inaccurate.
“The Duchess was out of the country last week and the week before in Hong Kong; China; Saudi Arabia and Venice and was not involved in this program which took place and was finalized last week whilst she was overseas, ”Henderson explained.
In addition, other sources have said that Fergie was shocked over the interview and people close to the duchess blame the prince’s secretary, Amanda Thirsk.
“This has Amanda Thirsk’s hands all over it,” a friend of Ferguson’stold The Telegraph. “The Duke is not very quick on his feet so how could Amanda put him up to it. Amanda was the one who pushed for it. Fifty minutes with anybody on the one subject is going to be difficult. EvenNewsnight[was] flabbergasted. ”
In 2010, Fergieapologized for accepting a $ 24, 500 loanfrom Epstein. She called her decision at the time a “gigantic error of judgment.” She and Andrew were married in 1986 and separated in 1992 before divorcing in 1996. The two still remain close today and reportedly live together in Windsor Park.
