According to sources that spoke to media outlet Respawn First, thePlayStation 4’s DualShock 4 will be compatible with Sony’s upcoming next-generation PlayStation 5.DualShock 4 “Fully Compatible” With PlayStation 5
Respawn First reports that a duo of developers currently in possession of PS5 devkits confirmed that the DualShock 4 is “fully compatible” with the PlayStation 5. It’s unclear which studios provided the nugget. With quite a few developers already developing PS5 games, the scope is rather broad.
The suggestion is that through the PlayStation 5’s purported backward compatibility features, the DualShock 4 will be viable with the new hardware and operating system.
Backward Compatibility
As of writing, Sony’s backward compatibility plans are unclear. The consensus is that PlayStation 4 titles will work on the new console. There’s even speculation thatSony is planning to have the entire back catalog of titles as far back as the original PlayStation playable.
The DualShock 4 will reportedly be compatible with PlayStation 4 games. As Respawn First points out, it’s unclear whether PlayStation 5 titles will work exclusively with the DualShock 5 or both controllers.

As for the DualShock 5 controller, the latest tipsuggests Sony is gearing up for a reveal during Q1; It will occur alongside an official reveal of the PlayStation 5 during a PlayStation Meeting 01575879 show in February. At this point, this exists as a rumor and must be taken with an appropriate amount of salt.
