Driver questioned on suspicion of drug-driving after boy, 8, killed in M60 crash – Sky News, Sky.com
                                                     

A driver is being questioned on suspicion of drug-driving after an eight-year-old boy was killed in a motorway crash in Greater Manchester.

Two boys, aged six and eight, were taken to hospital on Friday after the silver BMW they were in hit a stationary highways maintenance vehicle on the hard shoulder of the M 60, near junction 23 for Audenshaw, shortly after 2pm.

Police said the eight-year-old boy was pronounced dead a short time later.

A woman in the maintenance vehicle suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the BMW – a man in his 90 s – was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and drug-driving.

Sergeant Matthew Picton of Greater Manchester Police’s roads policing unit said: “This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the boy’s family at this terrible time.

“Our officers are currently piecing together the circumstances of the collision and we would appeal for anyone who witnessed it, or who may have dashcam footage, to get in touch as a matter of urgency.”
