THE EU has pulled out of weekend talks to hash out plans for a Brexit deal – days after Boris Johnson unveiled a new proposal to pull Britain out by October 31.

The PM is determined to get the country out of the EU by the end of the month, despite Brussels scuppering precious talk time and refusing to meet again until Monday.

Yesterday heinsisted he would not delay Brexit, after declaring he would rather be “dead in a ditch “than ask to prolong the process.

Talks between the two sides were thought likely to continue today after the Prime Minister set out his plan to replace the controversial Irish backstop.

But the European Commission said EU member states had agreed the proposals “do not provide a basis for concluding an agreement”.

A spokesman said discussions between the two sides would not take place this weekend and instead the UK would be given “another opportunity to present its proposals in detail” on Monday.

Last night the PM defiantly tweeted: “New deal or No Deal – but no delay.# GetBrexitDone#LeaveOct 31. ”

But the chances of his new Brexit proposals succeeding, however, were dealt a heavy blow by Brussels yesterday, as EU member states agreed the plans “do not provide a basis for concluding an agreement”.

And despite his determination to pull Britain out of the Euro bloc byOctober 31–a bombshell court document has suggested he might be forced to beg for more time.

The PM has never admitted in public before that he would send a letter to Brussels as the new law would require.

LEAVING EU

Any extension to the Article 50 process – the mechanism by which the UK leaves the European Union – would have to be agreed by all 27 Other EU leaders.

Last Wednesday Mr Johnson revealed his new Brexit plans that he hopes can finally cut a deal with Brussels before the October 31 Deadline.

Although EU leaders including Jean Claude Juncker initially reacted warmly to his suggestions, Ireland and other leaders said it wasn’t good enough.

It comes after Brussels stepped up its negative rhetoric – warning it was up to the UK, not the EU, to fix “problematic” bits before negotiations can start properly.

Ongoing legal action – led by businessman Vince Dale, SNP MP Joanna Cherry QC and Jolyon Maugham QC – asked the court to require Mr Johnson to seek an extension to avoid leaving the EU without a deal.

Andrew Webster QC, representing the UK Government, said the documents it has submitted to the court are a “clear statement” as to what the Prime Minister will do.

He argued there is no need for an order to be made forcing a letter requesting an Article 50 extension to be sent under the terms of the Benn Act, because the court has it on record it will be sent.

Judge Lord Pentland is to announce his decision on Monday.
