Fans Rejoice Over News 'GOT' Creators Benioff and Weiss Exit 'Star Wars' Project – Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Cheatsheet.com

At the time, all those rampant complaints about thefinal season ofGame of Thronesseemed like they would eventually pass and fade into the background. The petition, the discussions with the cast, and the social media roasting of season eight ruled much of the summer.

All of the hate was directed toward showrunnersD.B. Weiss and David Benioff, and they recently admitted they were clueless when working on the series. With that said, reports that they’ve detached themselves from a newStar Warsprojecthas attracted new attention.

Wait, what ‘Star Wars’ project?

In February 2018,Disney and Lucasfilm announcedthat Weiss and Benioff would be helming a new group ofStar Warsfilms for the future. Keep in mind this news hit way before theGame of Thronesdebacle that spawned nearly 2 million signatures on a petition to remove them from the show, so the pair were still in fair standing with the public. Weiss and Benioff were excited about this and their separate Netflix deal. *********

“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since, ”Benioff and Weiss said in a joint statement. “We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season ofGame of Thronesis complete. ”

Both of them were to set to write and produce the stories, and at least one of those projects was slated to appear on the Disney platform. It sounds like they’re abandoning allStar Warsplans on all platforms now.

Fan reactions are in favor of the exit

When headlines about the duo’s departure arrived fromDeadlineand other outlets yesterday, it was explained that Benioff and Weiss decided to leave to due to scheduling conflicts. They cited their Netflix deal as the main reason for their exit, and fans are elated. But they do have concerns about what D&D ((Weiss and Benioff) will do at Netflix, and hope it’s not a mess.

Taking to Twitter,Reddit, and other forums to share their thoughts, fans of bothStar WarsandGame of Thronesexpressed their satisfaction with the writers’ withdrawal. Some say it’s for the best, and others say it serves them right for ruiningGame of Thrones. Many said this is the best news they’ve heard all year, and they’re happy Weiss and Benioff didn’t get the chance to runStar Warsinto the ground. Ouch.

What made the sentiment toward Benioff and Weiss worse

No one wants to let go of theGame of Thronesconclusive, yet disappointing ending, and the old showrunners made an appearance at the Austin Film Festival to discuss past and present work. According toEsquire, attendees took note of comments from D&D about the entire series.

Apparently, they were inexperienced when they took the job of runningGame of Thronesand in addition to that, decided to chuck most of the fantasy elements found in the books.

Why? “We didn’t just want to appeal to that type of fan” and believed playing down the fantasy aspects would lure in viewers like mothers and NFL players. The pair also admitted they didn’t understand / know the characters during the time theGame of Thronespilot was getting ready to air. ************

Learning this just added fuel to the hate fire this week and fans are celebrating that the Force will be saved from these two.
