The Brexit Party leader has been warned he could “split” the Leave vote if he goes up against Boris Johnson in the December 12 general election. Express.co.uk readers believe Mr Farage has made a mistake in taking on Mr Johnson, after warning the party will stand 600 candidates in the general election, a poll has found. An Express.co.uk poll asked readers, ‘Has Farage made an error taking on Boris as 20 Brexit Party candidates quit? ‘
Responding to the poll, 54 percent of Express.co.uk readers claimed the Brexit Party leader had made a mistake, while 44 percent, insisted he had not. Two percent of readers elected for ‘Don’t know’.
Overall, 6, 309, believe the Brexit Party leader’s promise to take on Boris could be an error, while 5, 189 disagree. 345 readers picked ‘Don’t know’.
But, despite 11, 843 readers taking part in the Express.co.uk poll, which took place between 11 am on November 5 and 22. 40 pm on the same day, some readers were quick to warn Farage of his plan.

Commenting on whether he had made an error, one wrote: “Yes! No compromise from this guy which is sad as it proves he is not a Politician but a good ranter. ”
Another added:“ Sorry Nigel but the fact that you are not fighting a seat means that the Brexit party will be dead in the water. How can you expect to gain seats when no one will know who will steer the ship? You need to follow it through to the end. ”
A third said:“ I feel Nigel has overstretched his party. Shame there couldn’t have been an alliance. I hope this doesn’t cause a split vote. ”
Another warned Mr Farage was going to“ split the Leave vote ”which could open the door to Jeremy Corbyn and Lid Dem leader Jo Swinson.
But, some readers continued to back the Brexit Party leader despite the setback on Tuesday.

One wrote: “No! It is Boris who has made a mistake. Nigel Farage is giving Leave voters a choice and a voice that no one else has given us, especially our parliament. ”
Another added:“ No Boris as made the mistake of not accepting the Brexit Party offer and going it alone. I want Brexit in full, no half measures so vote the Brexit Party. ”
One even claimed the Prime Minister had“ missed a trick ”. A reader wrote: “I think Boris has missed a trick here. Their alliance would be a brilliant way to get Brexit done. We voted out, not to leave with a deal, to leave without a deal, no half measures! ”
The Brexit Party leader was dealt a blow on Tuesday after it emerged that 20 Brexit Party candidates had already quit.
Paul Brothwood, who stood down as the party’s candidate in Dudley South, admitted he disagreed with Mr Farage’s “dangerous” strategy of taking on the Tories, as it could let Mr Corbyn win.

He told the Telegraph: “It feels good to be back in the Conservative family who are committed to delive ring Brexit and I am confident that Boris Johnson is the best person to stand up for Britain. ”
Mr Brothwood added that” a number “of candidates had also been removed from a local Brexit Party WhatsApp group.
He even claimed that around 10 percent of the party’s candidates could quit.
Mr Farage told the Prime Minister he would stand 600 candidates in the general election if Mr Johnson refused a pact and continued to support his withdrawal agreement with the EU. Mr Johnson quickly refused the idea of an electoral pact.

On Tuesday , Mr Farage told the PA news agency he decided not to stand in the General Election so he could “traverse the length and breadth of the country” to help potential candidates get elected.
Mr Farage said: “Look, perhaps he doesn’t want a pact because he wants to continue with his EU treaty. He wants us to be half in, half out, and go straight into three more years of expensive negotiations where we are tied in every way.
“I would urge the Prime Minister to change course. He did what he could in a very difficult situation he inherited. It’s a very Remain Parliament, the General Election is a chance to press the reset button. case, I will stand for Brexit if he doesn’t really want to. “

Asked if he was concerned he could become the reason Brexit is prevented, Mr Farage said: “Well, number one, as things stand, we are the only people offering Brexit because Boris’ deal i s not Brexit.
“Secondly, it is completely misunderstood … that when I last did this in 2015, and led Ukip, I was asked the same question.
“‘Oh you’ll split the Tory vote’. No. It was the Labor vote we hurt and if you look at my schedule this week and where I’m going, I think the five million Labor leavers are the most likely people to vote for the Brexit Party – that is our key target audience.
“So our effect overall on the election is probably quite neutral, because a lot of Labor people are going to vote for us.”
