The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services said Monday the state has received three reports of influenza-associated deaths this season.The MDHSS said they are the first flu-associated deaths of the season.Reports of influenza are also on the increase in Kansas, where the number of hospital visits related to influenza has gone up 2.5% compared to last season at this time.Doctors in Missouri have seen more than 1, 500 cases of the flu this season. Doctors in Johnson County, Kansas, have seen 728 cases of the flu, with patients on most of those cases between the ages of 5 and 24. The MDHSS said it is important to remember that flu is hard to predict, but anyone can help prevent the spread of the flu. The best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get vaccinated every year. “For those who haven’t already been vaccinated, it is important to know that it’s not too late,” said Dr. Randall Williams, director of the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. “We are approaching the peak of flu season, so now is still a great time to protect yourself and others around you by being vaccinated.”
