Five people are served 86 drinks at dinner (and no, things did not end well)

A restaurant served 86 drinks to customers leaving them so drunk they were found outside lying in pools of their own vomit.

Footage showed how the inebriated patrons stumbled and struggled to get to their feet after downing vast quantities of alcohol at a Korean restaurant in Sydney’s Central Business District in October of last year.

The Haru Fusion Soju Lounge is now facing disciplinary action after selling up to 86 standard drinks of Soju – a Korean spirit that has an alcohol content between 16 and 53 per cent – to five people, leaving two of them needing hospital treatment.

Police attended the scene at around 1. 25 am on October 11 and found a man and woman passed out and covered in their own vomit.

The man had earlier been lying unconscious on the road before being moved to the footpath by road workers, news.com.aureported.

Both had to be taken to hospital for further treatment by paramedics.

The pair had been part of a group of two women and three men who had taken part in a six-hour drinking session to celebrate a birthday.

Further CCTV footage showed how a female staff member walked past one drunk man who had fallen asleep at a table and took no action.

New South Wales’ Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority is now launching disciplinary procedures against the venue for failing to fulfillil its responsible alcohol service obligations.

Authority chair Philip Crawford said: “It is almost beyond belief that venue staff could serve such a large amount of alcohol to a group of five patrons and not take any steps to avoid extreme intoxication.

“The fact one of the patrons was passed out on the road highlights the risk of serious injury or death.

“The Authority will consider imposing a range of special conditions on the venue’s liquor license, as well as winding back the venue’s trading hours.”
