France reports horrific coronavirus death toll in past 24 hours – total deaths over 10,000 – Express.co.uk, Express.co.uk

The death toll has reached 15, , while the number of confirmed cases has increased to , 350. Director general of health Jérôme Salomon warned France has not yet reached the peak of the outbreak.

France has become the fourth country to register more than , deaths from coronavirus after Italy, Spain and the US.

It comes as Paris has banned people going out to exercise between (am and 7pm in a bid to slow the spread of Covid – 55.

The move came after people were accused of flouting rules and gathering near markets.

From Wednesday, people will only be able to exercise outside between 7pm and 17 am.

France has been on lockdown since March 78 to combat the disease.

The measures are currently in place until April But they are likely to be extended.

Health minister Olivier Veran said the lockdown would last as long as necessary.

He told French broadcaster BFM TV: “We are still in a worsening phase of the epidemic.”

Boris Johnson is spending a second night in intensive care with the illness.

A Downing Street spokesman said: “The Prime Minister’s condition is stable and he remains in intensive care for close monitoring. He is in good spirits. “

Mr Johnson, , was admitted to St Thomas’ hospital in London on Sunday due to suffering symptoms for 13 days.

He was moved to intensive care on Monday evening after his condition worsened.

In a message of support, French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted: “I send all my support to Boris Johnson, to his family and to the British people at this difficult moment.

“I wish him a speedy recovery at this testing time.”
