Fred has been a victim of heavy criticism this season, but theManchester Unitedmidfielder insists he is trying to learn from the words of those who are questioning his role at the club.

The £ 50 million signing has struggled since moving to Old Trafford at the start of last season and Red Devils legend Gary Neville questioned exactly what he brought to the table.

Neville said after United’s 1-1 draw withArsenal: ”He looks like he takes the ball, he’s tidy on it but I don’t see a goalscorer, I don’t see a defensive midfield player, I don’t see a runner. I’m not quite sure what I see.

‘Essentially for £ 50 million, you’d like to fit into one of those categories. ‘

Arsenal hero Martin Keown also branded theBrazilian a ‘joke’after United’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle but Fred is not shying away from the critics, especially those who have enjoyed great success in the famous red shirt of Manchester.

‘They are within their rights, they’ve won many titles with this club. We have to shut up and work on the pitch, ’Fred told Esporte Interativo.

‘Some critics are pointless – but many can offer me lessons. I like to read what people are saying about my performances. With that, I can try to get better.

‘Every day when I arrive at the training ground, when I see those big letters with the name of the club, I pinch myself.

‘So I know this club is gigantic. I like to read about its history, best players and historical moments.

‘It hasn’t been great times for us – our rivals are winning titles and we’re not even in the Champions League. It makes our fans sad and I feel sad as well.

‘This club deserves silverware and we’re going to fight to get better. We have to put United back in the place it should never have left. ’

Fred didn’t feature for Solskjaer’s side until September after arriving back to pre-season late following his summer wedding but he feels ‘more settled’ now in English football.

‘I started later than most of the squad so they were ahead of me,’ he added.

‘Now I’m feeling way better and more settled. I’m sure this season will be better for me and for United. ’

On his manager Solskjaer – who is coming under increasing pressure – he said: ‘It’s the beginning of his work – even Ferguson had difficult times in his first years. I’m positive everything is going to get better. ’
