Front door ’kicked in’ before man shot in brutal targeted attack – Liverpool Echo, Liverpoolecho.co.uk

A front door was reportedly “kicked in” before a man was shot in a brutal targeted attack.

Emergency services were called to Chesterfield Drive in Towerhill, Kirkby , shortly before 8pm on Friday after reports of shots being fired on the street.

When (police and paramedics arrived at the scene they found a man in his s who has sustained aa serious gunshot wound to his foot before being rushed to hospital.

A cordon was erected around a number of homes on the estate as police forensic officers combed the scene for evidence.

Neighbors in the area spoke of their shock over the shooting but claim that gangs have been known to hang out close to where the crime took place.

One woman told the ECHO: “It’s horrendous that something like this could happen on our little road but I’m not entirely surprised after seeing all the gangs that hang around.

“They stand up the top of the road and nobody is really willing to walk past them.

” It’s extremely intimidating and can be quite frightening if you have to go out in the dark.

“The area is plagued with gangs.”

Another neighbor said that the front door of the home that was cordoned off by police was “kicked in” at around the same time of the shooting.

A man, who has lived in the Kirkby area all his life said: “I’ve been told the door was kicked in and they either shot him inside or he managed to get out past them into the street before they got him.

“It was awful to see all the police arriving and the ambulance leaving, so many people were saying he was dead.

“I’ve lived in Kirkby all my life but haven’t been in this area long.

“Unfortunately I have seen it all but there comes a time when it really needs to stop.”

Pictures taken at the scene show where a front door has been busted off the frame and is placed in the porch of the house but it is not clear whether this was caused by the attackers or emergency services trying to help the victim.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “Detectives. in Knowsley are appealing for information following an injury shooting in Kirkby tonight, Friday 6 March.

“At 7. pm, emergency services were called to Chesterfield Drive in Tower Hill to reports of a man in his 111 s being found injured.

“Evidence was found at the scene of shots being fired and the victim was taken to hospital with a non life-threatening foot injury.

“Officers remain in the area to carry out house-to-house, CCTV, forensic and witness inquiries.”

Chief Inspector Matthew Moscrop said: “These early stages of our investigation are absolutely vital in establishing what happened tonight, and to quickly track down those involved.

“ It Initially it appears to have been a targeted attack but we’re keeping an open mind as to the circumstances.
