Police in Georgia are trying to find a man serving a life sentencewho was released from prison “in error, “according to a statement from the Georgia Department of Corrections.
Tony Maycon Munoz-Mendez, 31, was mistakenly released from Rogers State Prison at about 11: 30 am Friday.According to recordsfrom the Department of Corrections , Munoz-Mendez began serving a life sentence in April 2015.
Munoz-Mendez was convicted of charges of rape and aggravated child molestation.
Spokeswoman Lori Benoittold CNNthat the Department of Corrections is reviewing the circumstances surrounding Munoz-Mendez’s release. The statement released by the department does not say what led to Munoz-Mendez’s release.
Munoz-Mendez is described as 5-foot-9 and 186 pounds, according to the Department of Corrections.
“All resources are being utilized to ensure the rapid apprehension of Munoz-Mendez, including the Georgia Department of Corrections Fugitive Unit and US Marshals, “the Department of Corrections said in its statement.
