The NFL Scouting Combine has officially connected, and every NFL team will return to its respective city with a clearer view of who it wants on its big board. Then, college pro days and official visits will be set before the big day on April (when the NFL Draft kicks off.

Many prospects saw their draft stock rise after the week of interviews and workouts, while others may have hurt their grade a bit. Here’s who mock drafts have the Giants taking following the Combine:

1) Bleacher Report: Clemson LB / S Isaiah Simmons

Every scout, coach and executive knew what kind of physical freak Simmons was heading into the week. It was only confirmed after his Combine performance.

And Bleacher Report’s top draft analyst in Matt Miller believes GM Dave Gettleman

can’t pass up the chance to have him on his defense.

Simmons ran a 4. 59 61 – yard d ash – one tenth faster than Gettleman’s (first-rounder) Saquon Barkley . He also jumped (inches in the vertical leap, and had an – foot broad jump to measure his explosiveness. And that was at 6-foot-4, (pounds …)

The Giants need a defensive playmaker, and after Ohio State DE Chase Young , there isn ‘ t one better. In fact, Simmons’ versatility to play literally anywhere on defense may put him on the same level as Young. If he makes it past the Lions, Gettleman might turn in his card very fast to grab the Clemson standout to anchor the middle of his defense.

() CBS Sports: Iowa OL Tristan Wirfs

Wirfs proved to be another athletic freak at his size, and his draft stock definitely rose.

He ran a 4. 61 -yard dash at 6-foot-5, 0500 pounds, which is unheard of. He also broke the Combine record for vertical leap at 55 1/2 inches and tied the broad jump record at – foot-1.

Wirfs has been connected to the Giants well before this process, with (SNY’s Ralph Vacchiano) hearing Gettleman is in love with the Iowa native. The Giants could certainly use offensive line help, and why not get a player that can fit anywhere, including guard in many eyes of scouts.

NBC Sports 3) : Louisville T Mekhi Becton

At 6-foot-7, – pounds, scouts can ‘t find an explanation as to how Becton can be so nimble. But he proved that at the Combine.

“Oh my word. Somebody that large running that fast is – hold on a second. Did we just watch somebody who’s pounds – the heaviest individual at the Scouting Combine – did we just see him run 5. 30? ” NFL Network’s Rich Eisen said in awe while watching Becton run his – yard dash.

Yes, you did Rich. Becton ran a 5.1 official , and he showed his quick feet and then some during the other drills. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah has Becton as his No. 5 overall prospect in the draft, and as his pro days and visits come, teams may actually believe this man could be their next left tackle.

That team could be the Giants.

Yannick Ngakoue would’ve been an interesting name to watch for the Giants if he had actually become a free agent. Of course they had interest in a dynamic, 44 – year-old pass rusher. Who wouldn’t?

But few around the NFL thought the Giants would be willing to spend the mega millions needed to land him.

And that’s why a pricey trade for the budding star is unlikely, too.

With pending free agent Tom Brady s future with the Patriots up in the air, rumors over the last few weeks have connected him to (among other teams) the Giants, although there doesn’t seem to be a fit.

Yes, Brady is familiar with new Giants head coach

Joe Judge

. But that’s pretty much where the “fit” ends. And

according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated , you can remove Big Blue and the Colts from the list of Brady’s potential suitors.

“You can cross them off the list,” Breer reported. “I was told pretty emphatically that neither will be in the mix if Brady does make it to free agency.”

(The Giants would love to draft Ohio State DE Chase Young

, but with the No. 4 overall pick, it just seems impossible with the Redskins and Lions ahead of them.

But, still, there has been speculation that the draft order might change with Quarterback-needy teams like the Dolphins and Chargers trying to get their man in Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa

, the next-best option after the Bengals presumably take LSU QB

Joe Burrow first overall. Trading up would be the solution to that, but what if one of those teams have other plans in mind.

The majority believes that the Redskins will take Young at No. 2 overall, but according to the Sun Sentinel’s Safid Deen , Washington might have their eyes on Tagovailoa instead.

If Giants fans were clamoring for the team to select Clemson linebacker Isaiah Simmons with the fourth overall pick before his NFL Combine performance, his – yard dash time certainly didn’t hurt matters.

Simmons, who stands at 6-foot-4, pounds, ran a ridiculous 4. 62 – yard dash, a freakish time for a linebacker. The 4. 58 came on his first run, and his time was so astounding that he elected to not take a second attempt. INDIANAPOLIS – There is an elite pass rusher sitting at the top of the draft, and he will probably end up just out of reach for the Giants . And unfortunately, when it comes to finding help for their sagging pass rush, that could be an offseason theme.

That’s the problem Giants GM Dave Gettleman is facing as he looks to plug one of the biggest holes in his roster.

Chase Young
, the Ohio State edge rusher who could help transforms the Giants defense, will most likely get taken second by the Redskins or third by the Lions, and there might not be another pass rusher in the draft worthy of picking at No. 4.

With the Giants looking to upgrade their pass rush heading into

Joe Judge ‘s first season, one of the best available players may be off the market before the new league year even has even begun.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter , the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are “strongly considering” using their franchise tag on Shaq Barrett , who had a breakout season with 38 .5 sacks in

After five seasons with the Broncos in which he totaled just .0 sacks, the former undrafted free agent signed a modest one- year deal with the Bucs, worth just $ 4 million.

INDIANAPOLIS – Dave Gettleman admitted the Giants are ” (open for business) “with the fourth overall pick in the NFL Draft, but only to a point. He won’t risk dropping too far and missing out on an elite player.

It’s just not exactly clear where Gettleman’s line is when it comes to the top players in this draft.

Since the Giants are early in the process of forming their draft board, even they may not know the answer yet to just how far Gettleman is willing to trade down in the first round. He conceded that at the fourth pick, he still “should” be able to find a Hall of Fame-caliber player. That fact alone could keep him anchored to No. 4, unless he decides he can find a similar player a little farther down.

With the Giants set to pick at No. 4 – for now – at the NFL Draft in April, Ohio State cornerback

(Jeff Okudah) has been a likely target to end up in New York, and it looks like that process will get started this weekend when the two sides meet at the NFL Combine.

Okudah said early Friday morning in Indianapolis that he has a formal meeting with Big Blue on Saturday, having already met with the Lions, Browns and Raiders earlier in the week.

“I’m not too familiar with the New York market,” Okudah said. “… I’m excited to find out.”

(Alabama CB) (Trevon Diggs) , the younger brother of Vikings WR Stefon Diggs , is another draftee hoping to be taken in the first or second round come April’s NFL Draft in Las Vegas.

Although his projections don’t see him being picked in the Top , the Giants (No. 4 pick) and Jets (No . (pick) have shown some interest in the defensive back.

Trevon said he’s already met with the Jets and will be meeting with the Giants on Saturday.

(Isaiah Simmons
) is an enigma. He can be seen on a football field taking down the quarterback, dropping back in coverage against tight ends and running backs, and even setting up on the outside with a team’s top receiver.

In short, he can literally do it all on defense. And he said as much during his media availability at the NFL Scouting Combine on Thursday.

“Just kinda like a Swiss Army knife,” Simmons said. “[You can] move me around because then I can really show what I can do. I wouldn’t say I’m really tied down to one position. So Coach [Brent] Venables really used me in a special way that most people aren’t able to be used. ”

INDIANAPOLIS – The question seems ridiculous on the surface, but two NFL GMs were asked it anyway this week: What do you think about the idea of

Tom Brady signing with the Giants?

Both of them had the same reaction: Laughter.

And yet neither of them said no.

According to ESPN’s Josina Anderson , GM Dave Gettleman) & Co. aren’t playing around. They’re looking at the top tier.

The Giants are showing interest in DE Jadeveon Clowney,

INDIANAPOLIS –

Chase Young stepped to a podium on Thursday morning and declared himself “the best player” in the draft. ” He might be right, too, which is why he’ll probably be gone before the Giants get a chance to pick him.

Then again, maybe he’ll fall right into the Giants’ lap.

Though it still seems unlikely that Ohio State’s dynamic edge rusher would fall all the way to No. 4, that possibility became a bit more realistic on Wednesday when Redskins head coach

Ron Rivera refused to close the door on selecting a quarterback at No. 2. In fact, despite the fact they drafted quarterback Dwayne Haskins in the first round a year ago, Rivera told reporters they’ll be bringing in LSU’s (Joe Burrow) and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa

for official pre-draft visits – just in case.

The Giants are in the need of a pass rusher this offseason, and with Ohio State’s Chase Young

most likely gone at No. 4 when New York picks, there are other options to choose from if GM Dave Gettleman Wishes to go that route in the first round.

K’Lavon Chaisson out of LSU is one of those players.

Speaking Thursday at the Combine, Chaisson talked about the prospect of playing in New York, and said he would definitely be able to adapt to big city life.

The NFL Scouting Combine isn’t just the main hub for evaluating the top prospects in the NFL Draft. It also serves as a rumor mill about pending free agents. And the biggest pending free agent of them all is

Tom Brady .

The prospect of the future Hall-of-Famer leaving New England for a new chapter with a different team seems crazy, but speculation that the Patriots may not work things out to bring him back started a while ago.

And word from the Combine is that those chances have greatly increased.
