A14 – year-old girl struck by an ambulance days before Christmas has died in hospital.

Shaniqua Loftman-Smith had been in a critical condition since Sunday December when she was hit by the emergency vehicle, which had been responding to a call out when the crash happened.

She was rushed to hospital in a critical condition but despite the best efforts of medics Shaniqua died from her injuries, police confirmed on Tuesday.Images of an ambulance at the scene show the bonnet dented and a partially smashed windscreen.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the fatal crash.

The girl was a pedestrian.

Nottinghamshire Police have offered their condolences to the girl’s family, who have asked for privacy.

TShaniqua Loftman-Smith, who has died in hospital after a collision with an ambulance on Dec 22. he force issued an appeal for witnesses to the incident, saying anyone with information or dashcam footage is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police.

East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) said they offered their “deepest condolences” to the girl’s family and were co-operating with a police investigation.

Richard Henderson, Chief Executive of EMAS, said: “I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the patient’s family at this very difficult time, and my thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident.

“We continue to fully co-operate with the police in their investigation into what happened, and therefore it would be inappropriate for us to make any further comment at this time. ”
