Updated statement from Police Scotland and KLM
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Following examination of the cargo package on the plane at Glasgow Airport, we can now confirm that the package has been deemed safe and there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding this incident. ”
A KLM spokesperson said: “KLM confirms that on board KL 1473, operating between Amsterdam and Glasgow, a package packed in dry ice started to leak. The package contained glass tubes with vaccines. These tubes have remained intact with only the cooling around them starting to leak. As a precaution, the fire brigade cordoned off the immediate vicinity of the aircraft. Passengers were never in danger but were taken off board as a precaution. The incident was stood down at 13. 30 after the package was declared safe by emergency services. ”
Cheers heard as planes begin to board again
Cheers have been heard at Glasgow Airport after planes were allowed to board again.
Passenger Max van Doorne, 24, from Eindhoven in the Nerthlands was one of the passengers on the KLM flight from Amsterdam.
He told the Record fellow travelers are in high spirits after services began resuming.
Max posted a picture of emergency services on the plane after reports of a cargo spill.
He’s said flight crews were fantastic and reassured everyone over the incident.

A spokesperson for Glasgow Airport said: “At approximately 10 am today, the airport fire service attended an arriving KLM flight in response to concerns raised over a piece of cargo. The incident was stood down at 13. 25 after the package was declared safe by emergency services. ”

More information on the incident has emerged
A police insider told the Daily Record that the incident had been treated in line with standard procedures though people were not thought to be at any risk. They said: “It’s being treated as non-suspicious – a package thought to be involved in a chemical spillage, which has prompted precautionary measures being taken.”

A spokesperson for Glasgow Airport said: “At approximately 10 am today, the airport fire service attended an arriving KLM flight in response to concerns raised over a piece of cargo. Enquiries are ongoing to determine the content of the package and the aircraft has been cordoned off pending the outcome of the investigation. All other parts of the airport are fully operational. ”
