Russell Crowe wins best actor in a limited series or TV movie for “The Loudest Voice”
Presenter Jennifer Aniston said that the Australian actor was at home “protecting his family from devastating bushfires,” but read aloud from a statement Crowe sent.
“Make no mistake,” the statement began. “The tragedy unfolding in Australia is climate change-based. We need to act based on science, move our global workforce to renewable energy and respect our planet for the unique and amazing place it is. That way, we all have a future. Thank you. ”

********** Ramy Youssef wins best actor in a TV series, musical or comedy for Hulu’s “Ramy”
This is the first win for Youssef, whose
acclaimed show
was loosely based on his experiences as a Muslim, Egyptian American millennial. The comedian worked all of these bio points into his acceptance speech.
“I would like to thank my god,” he began, in a cheeky reference to host and noted atheist Ricky Gervais telling actors to quickly thank their agents and their deity of choice in their acceptance speeches. “Allahu Akbar.”
Youssef poked some fun at himself, too. “I know you guys haven’t seen my show,” he said, looking down at the glamorous audience. “Everyone is like,‘ is this an editor? ’” Jokes aside, Youssef thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press for recognizing his very personal project. “We made a very specific show about an Arab Muslim family living in New Jersey and this means a lot to be recognized in this way.”
There was one last joke, though. His mom had been rooting for Michael Douglas, nominated for “The Kominsky Method.” “Egyptians love Michael Douglas,” he joked.

Ricky Gervais returns as host, and so do his scathing jokes All week long, NBC has been pushing the idea that Gervais’s return as Golden Globes host would be unpredictable. He delivered via a series of jokes that took direct aim at the actors and producers assembled in the Beverly Hilton.
Gervais tried to prep the audience for the roast telling them he did care, this would be his last time as Globes host and “remember they’re just jokes. We’re all gonna die soon and there’s no sequel. ”
Here’s a sampling of how he started off the show:- “Kevin Hart was fired from the Oscars for some offensive tweets. Hello, ”he said, referencing himself. “Lucky for me the Hollywood Foreign Press can barely speak English and they have no idea what Twitter is. I’ve been offered this gig by fax. ”-“ I came here in a limo tonight and the license plate was made by Felicity Huffman. ”- “Talking to all you perverts, it was a big year… ‘Surviving R. Gasps could be heard (from tabloid readers, at least) last week when people reported That Michelle Williams was pregnant and engaged to Thomas Kail, the director of “Hamilton.” This was considered shocking news because: a) no one knew they were dating and b) Williams just split from ex-husband Phil Elverum last spring. Anyway, Kail and Williams, who is nominated for best actress in a limited series for FX’s “Fosse / Verdon,” are officially in the middle of their red carpet debut.

Ava DuVernay finds an upside to her Golden Globes snub
DuVernay’s acclaimed Netflix series received several Critics’ Choice Award nominations and won two Emmys, but was totally shut out by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
The director and writer, noting the current global political turmoil, tweeted “I Don’t have to juggle getting into hair, makeup gown while researching, reading and worrying about [impending] war. Also: easier to block trolls without newly manicured nails. Thanks, HFPA. This is a win win! ”
The “Pose” star spent three months working on his characteristically showstopping ensemble. Designed by Alex Vinash, the tux features a very long (and delicate) train. “The feathers are fragile,” he told Ryan Seacrest. “This is not a sitting outfit, this is a standing outfit.” Thankfully, they’re removable.
And Porter, up for best actor in a TV drama, may have to stand tonight. He already won an Emmy for his role on Ryan Murphy’s groundbreaking FX series.
