Harry Maguire had a message for Manchester United fans afterthe goalless draw at AZ Alkmaar on Thursday, but he deleted it after it didn’t go down well.

The summer signing fromLeicester– and also the world’s most expensive defender at £ 80 million – failed to get off the bench in the Netherlands as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went with a central defensive partnership of Victor Lindelof and Marcos Rojo.

That pair, as well as first-choice goalkeeper David De Gea, all did their jobs as the Eredivisie outfit were snuffed out despite having 12 shots on goal and four on target.

United, by contrast, failed to get a single one of their efforts on target as they were roundly criticized by fans and pundits for their performance for their display on a plastic pitch.

Solskjaer claimed he was pleased with the point

Solskjaer was desperate toaccentuate the positives after the game though, saying: “It’s a good point away from home against difficult opponents on a difficult surface.

“They beat Feyenoord 3-0 away from home, we made many changes and so I’m very pleased.”

Maguire too was determined to look on the bright side of life, despite United now being without an away win since the 3-1 Champions League success at Paris Saint-Germain back in March, a run of 10 games.

It is their longest winless run on the road since an 11 – game stretch between February and September (**************************************************.

The defender swiftly deleted this tweet

Despite that, the England defender tweeted: “A point away from home. Thanks for the support. See you Sunday.”

However, following a backlash from supporters at what they saw as an overly positive reaction to a disappointing result, Maguire ultimately deleted the post, which isn’t visible on hisTwitteraccount on Friday morning.

United go to Steve Bruce’sNewcastleUnited on Sunday seeking that first away win since March.
