A 39 – year-old man from Luton has pleaded guilty to a so-called honor-killing, after spending 18 years on the run.
Tabraz Mohammed attacked Soheil Mumtaz in the street for making advances towards his sister.
He hit the 24 – year-old repeatedly over the head with a hammer and kicked him as he lay on the ground near his home on 4 April 2001.
Mr Mumtaz, who died five days later, was understood to have worked with Mohammed’s sibling at a biscuit factory in the town.
After fleeing the country, Mohammed – whose last address was given as Southwood State Prison, New Jersey – was eventually extradited back to the UK from the US in August.
During a hearing at the Old Bailey on Friday, he admitted a charge of murder.
He has been remanded into custody until sentencing on 3 December at St Albans Crown Court.
There were angry shouts of “p ****” and “son of ab **** “from the public gallery, as he was led from the dock.
