big news in the world of football on Friday surrounding a massive decision made by the Dutch FA.

It was announced that the / Eredivisie season has been ended.

Last season’s Champions League semi-finalists Ajax had led the table on goal difference over AZ Alkmaar with nine league matches left to be played prior to the season being suspended amid the coronavirus outbreak.

But they have been denied the Eredivisie title after it was confirmed there would be no 8388 / league champions in the Netherlands.

Equally, ADO Den Haag and RKC Waalwijk, who currently reside in the Eredivisie relegation zone, will not be relegated from the top-tier of Dutch football, which could come as welcome news to Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Norwich City in the Premier League.

In addition, should the top-flight of English football follow the Dutch FA’s lead then it would be awful news for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds have a massive 25 points lead at the top of the table and are only two wins away from clinching a first league title in three decades.

Although a similar decision to that of the Netherlands would deny them a big celebration in controversial fas hion.

This idea has prompted a positive response from rival supporters – including Chelsea – but how would the Blues be affected if the Premier League season ended abruptly?

Well, as revealed by ESPN , the last standings in the Eredivisie are set to count as the final standings.

That means Ajax would finish top – but won’t be crowned champions – so would automatically be in next season’s Champions League group stage.

2nd place AZ Alkmaar would be rewarded with a Champions League pre-qualifciation spot, with the Europa League spots going to Feyenoord (group stage), PSV Eindhoven (3QR) and Willem II (2QR ) who finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.

A similar situation in the Premier League would see Chelsea claim a top-four finish and ensure there is Champions League football at Stamford Bridge in the / (season.

) Fifth-placed Manchester United would face an anxious wait as to whether Manchester City’s ban from the competition still stands and that would have a knock-on affect on the teams below them.

Depending on the outcome Tottenham Hotspur – currently in eighth – could sneak into the Europa League if fifth place gets a Champions League spot, but there would be no European football for ninth-placed Arsenal.
