Captains at the toss!

Mominul Haque: We will bat first. It’s a bit hard and it might break in fourth innings. It’s a great honor to captain Bangladesh.

Virat Kohli: It has a bit of grass on it and historicallyIndoreon day 1 has been bit spicy plus we are playing three seamers. We wanted to bowl first but we also want batsmen to bat in tough conditions. It’s ideal for our seamers who are in top form. I think, from day 2 onwards it will be a beautiful track to bat on. We are playing two spinners as well so we have covered for the third innings as well. Nadeem is not a part of this eleven and Ishant Sharma replaces him purely on the basis of the pitch.

Team news: One change for India in the playing XI. Ishant Sharma comes in place for Shahbaz Nadeem.

Toss news: Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque wins the toss and opts to bat first against India in Indore.

Pitch Report: “It looks a very good pitch. The new ball bowlers would enjoy the grass cover for the first couple of hours. There will be a good carry for the fast bowlers too. There is a little bit of moisture because it’s a fresh pitch. Team winning the toss would still like to bat first, “said Sunil Gavaskar.

8. 55 am: The players are on the field at the moment, warming up for the Day 1 of the first Test at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. In roughly about five minutes from now we will have toss.

8: 50 amHello and welcome to TimesofIndia .com’s coverage of Bangladesh’s tour of India, which enters its second and final leg today with the first Test of the two-match series.

The visitors, led by new Test skipper Mominul Haque, wear a depleted look in the absence of stalwarts Tamim Iqbal and regular skipper Shakib Al Hasan; and they face a tough ask against India’s formidable pace attack.

Bangladesh lost their last Test (one-off) to Afghanistan, while India crushed South Africa in a home series.

This series is also part of the World Test Championship calendar, with the Bangla Tigers beginning their campaign in the newly-introduced competition.

The track at the Holkar Stadium has always been a batting paradise with ridiculously short side boundaries but there’s expected to be bounce on offer, which will give an extra edge to India’s express bowlers.
