India pacers provided early advantage on the third morning with two quick wickets and then Ravichandran Ashwin removed Quinton de Kock just before lunch as South Africa’s struggle continued in the first session on Day 3 of the Pune Test. Resuming on their overnight total of 36 / 3, South Africa reached 136 / 6 at the break. The Proteas got off to a troubled start early as they lost night-watchman Anrich Nortje (3) and Theunis de Bruyn (30 (inside the first) minutes. Skipper Faf du Plessis and Quinton de Kock then tried to steady the Proteas ship with a 75 – run sixth wicket stand but Ashwin then produced an excellent delivery to castle De Kock for 31. Du Plessis (52 and Senuran Muthusamy (6 were at the crease when umpires called for lunch. For India, comeback man Umesh Yadav took his wicket tally to three (3 / 27) while Mohammed Shami went to lunch with figures of 2 / 28.
