There is no chance Villa will letGrealishleave in January with top flight survival on the line – they are only one point clear of the relegation places – as he is their most important player and vital to their hopes of staying up.

But should they fail in their fight against relegation it is easy to imagine Grealish jumping ship to stay in the top flight rather than drop back down to the Championship.

And United could swoop for the 24 – year-old then, if reports are to be believed.

But would Grealish make an impact at Old Trafford if he linked up with the Red Devils? Neil Warnock, the former Cardiff boss, believes so.

“I do love him,” said Warnock on talkSPORT’s Sports Breakfast.

“I think he’s a horrible little so-and-so when you’re playing against him because you know as soon as somebody breathes on him he is going to go down, but his ability is fantastic.

“If Villa go down I think he’s good enough to be a Man United player.”

Grealish has often been compared to James Maddison this season, as both players are young, English attacking midfielders catching the eye in the top flight.

Furthermore, both are considered top targets for Man United – though it is sure to be a choice of signing one or the other, rather than both.

“Maddison is the more complete player regarding box-to-box,” added Warnock, “but I think Jack just gives you that little bit more special magic in the final third.

“That’s why I talk about Man United – he is that kind of player.

“Like how [Eric] Cantona played for Man United, I think he would strut his business there.

“What I like about his game since we played them in the Championship, I think he has matured and he is so much better now.”

Maddison and Grealish went head-to-head on Wednesday evening as Leicester and Aston Villadrew their Carabao Cup semi-final 1-1, and the latter earned further rave reviews for his performance.
