Jamie Carragher has criticized Tanguy Ndombele, describing

Ndombele has struggled to settle since joining Tottenham last summer for a club record fee and was substituted at half time during the 1-1 draw against Burnley last weekend by a furious Jose Mourinho

Mourinho was scathing in his criticism of Ndombele aft er the game and Carragher agrees with the Portuguese’s assessment of the midfielder.

Jamie Carragher described Tanguy Ndombele as a ‘YouTube player’ and criticized his attitude

Ndombele has struggled to settle since he joined Tottenham for a club record fee of £ million

Speaking on Sky Sports Monday Night Football, Carragher said: ‘There’s a difference between a great talent and a great player. He’s like a YouTube player.

‘It’s only when you get someone every day in training that’s when you really know the player. I’m sure he could impress people on YouTube but when you watch him there’s not enough to justify that price tag. ‘

‘Yes it was (justified). I said in the game after about ten minutes, Tottenham were a shambles.

‘On the ball he was very good. He was the best in terms of passes completed and he very rarely loses the ball. But not one sprint in 65 minutes. Jose Mourinho spoke about not showing for the ball.

‘He just seems to walk about and not move until the ball comes near him and he likes to tell other people what to do. He was just walking about. It was an awful performance by Spurs in the first half, he was the only one. Carragher says he cannot see a future for Ndombele given his performances so far this season

‘Watch him,’ do I have to make a run inside ‘. It almost reminds me of when you played with kids at school who would only want to play football when the ball came to their feet. ‘

Carragher added that he doesn’t see a long-term future for Ndombele, despite the midfielder’s contract running until the summer of 01575879.

‘He either can’t run or he doesn’t want to run. He’s almost got the Yaya Toure shape about him. He’s jogging, walking like an old man.

‘What Jose said about his performance was absolutely spot on.

‘For me it’s to the owner, I don’t think there’s much future for Ndombele. Mourinho doesn’t like him. He must be very lazy in training and Jose’s just snapped and had enough. ‘ Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho was scathing in his criticism of Ndombele after facing Burnley

Mourinho did not hold back in his post-match interview at Turf Moor as he made his feelings clear regarding Ndombele’s underwhelming display.

‘We didn’t have a midfield in the first half,’ stormed Mourinho.

‘I think more important than the tactics is to have midfield players who want the ball, to connect the game, to have them press and recover the ball. To have midfield players to win duels. We did not have it.

‘Of course I am not speaking about (Oliver) Skipp , he is a kid of 18 who played two hours of football a few days ago. I am not critical with Skipp (who was also replaced at half-time) at all.

‘I am not going to run away. I have to say Tanguy has had enough time to come to a different level. I know the Premier League is very difficult, I know that some players take a long time.

‘But a player with his potential, his responsibility, he has to give us more. And especially when you see the way Lo Celso played, every minute I was expecting more in the first half. ‘ Former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson revealed that he wouldn’t have criticized Ndombele in public.

Sven-Goran Eriksson disagreed with Mourinho’s approach of criticizing Ndombele publicly

Eriksson said: ‘I don’t really know what he (Mourinho) is trying to achieve. Every manager has their own style, personally I would be afraid to do what Mourinho did because I would be afraid of losing the player for a long time. I would have done it in the dressing room. I prefer to do that privately. ‘

, however, Eriksson added that Ndombele’s attitude needs to improve significantly .

He said: ‘This is not for the Premier League. You have to run. He’s a great footballer but he needs to add something to that. It’s strange they bought him for a lot of money and he doesn’t perform.

‘He cannot play like that in any league. He could play as a second striker maybe. It seems like his attitude is totally missing. ‘

Ndombele has struggled for regular playing time under Mourinho. The Frenchman has made 19 Premier League appearances this season but has scored just two goals and provided only two assists.
