Kate and Prince William snubbed: Pakistan ministers storm out of royal reception – Express, Express.co.uk


Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William are currently on their official royal visit of Pakistan. But, on Monday evening, six Pakistani ministers walked out of the British High Commission reception, reportedly annoyed at their place at the gathering. Jonny Dymond, a royal correspondent and presenter for BBC News, explained: “Six Pakistani ministers walked out of the #RoyalVisitPakistan British High Commission reception on Monday night @bbcurdu reports.

“They were reportedly annoyed at their place in the gathering. Commission response to follow. ”

He later added:“ The Commission has replied. It says the Duke and Duchess ‘were delighted to meet a range of people from across Pakistani society’. ”

Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince William, arrived at the special reception hosted by the British High Commissioner to Pakistan in Islamabad.

At the reception, the duke recognised the country past, saying: “For a country so young, Pakistan has endured many hardships, with countless lives lost to terror and hatred.

“Tonight I want to pay tribute to all those who have endured such sacrifice and helped to build the country that we see today. “

And he promised Pakistan could rely on Britain as “a key partner and your friend”.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the hilltop monument in a rickshaw painted with the Pakistani and UK flags.

Prince William wore a teal sherwani suit, a long dresscoat worn over trousers, while the Duchess of Cambridge wore a dress by British designer Jenny Packham in deep green.

At a meeting earlier in Lahore, one of Pakistan’s largest cities and its cultural capital, the chief minister of Punjab state Usman Bazdar told the couple their visit “will further strengthen relations between the two countries”.

On Wednesday, Prince William and his wife Kate visited a melting glacier in the Hindu Kush mountain range.

It is one of the around 7, 000 of Pakistan’s 7, 200 glaciers that meteorological officials say show signs of melting, citing data gathered o ver the last 50 Years.

Khan’s office said in a statement: “While welcoming the royal couple, Prime Minister Imran Khan recalled the love and affection among the people of Pakistan for Princess Diana, because of her compassion as well as commitment to support charitable causes. ”

A statement from Kensington Palace ahead of the trip said: “This is the most complex tour undertaken by The Duke and Duchess to date, given the logistical and security considerations.”
